Trivia / Mystery Science Theater 3000 S08 E21: Time Chasers

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: The line "Let's go, director's college buds who brought their own suits to the shoot!" got a huge laugh from the film's cast and crew because that is exactly who those extras were.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: During the first trip to the future, we see a woman that resembles Lisa Kudrow, so Mike and the 'bots make a joke about it. Thing is, some people took it seriously. For years, IMDb and others had Kudrow listed in the cast credits.
  • Deleted Scene: They cut most of the racist cab driver's scenes out of the TV version. The guys visibly wince when they see him in the Rifftrax version, with Mike essentially saying out loud "I suddenly remember why we cut this guy..."
  • Fandom Nod: Eddie complains about how much it's sucked since "those two guys (Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank) shot me up into space when that sleepy-eyed guy (Joel) left".
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: Time Chasers being featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000 raised both the profile of the film itself and Edgewood Studios, to the point where David Giancola has been able to make several films with major B-list actors. Edgewood's website proudly brags about being featured on both MST3K and RiffTrax.
  • Playing Their Own Twin: Mike Nelson plays both Mike and his brother Eddie.
  • The Red Stapler: The "hero" of Time Chasers wears a Castleton State College T-shirt through most of the movie. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode not only created a demand for the shirts, but made the movie popular enough to get a DVD release. As David Giancola revealed, the idea for the shirt simply came out of the popularity of Eddie Murphy's college shirt in Beverly Hills Cop, and the staff needed to cheaply get a hold of five or six identical shirts in various stages of distress (they actually got them for free).
    • Eerily enough, one of Crow's riffs during the episode was "remember when everyone got the Nick Miller haircut and started wearing Castleton T-shirts?"
    • At the live RiffTrax event, the riffers ask anyone in the audience who is wearing a Castleton shirt to stand up. Then they ask only the ones who actually know what Castleton is to stand. They comment that it's fewer people.
    • And of course Nick Miller's hair cut was somewhat in style at the time of shooting though not because of him.
  • Updated Re-release: Rifftrax did an updated version with a completely new script for their live shows.
  • What Could Have Been: One of the show's writers said that they had planned to have one of the movie's actors make a guest appearance in the episode, but it didn't work out due to scheduling conflicts.
