• Distanced from Current Events: The San Diego Union-Tribune pulled the comic after the Ilhan Omar strip because its readers felt that the strip's subject matter was insensitive given that there had been a rise in anti-semitic attacks making the headlines around that time, including a shooting at a synagogue in Poway (a city in San Diego County) months prior.
• The Moral Substitute: The strip was marketed as a conservative counterpart to the left-leaning Doonesbury. It's not unusual for newspapers to run both strips side-by-side.

  • Mallard Fillmore makes an appearance early on in the Weapon Brown comic... as a head on a plate. According to the annotations, Yungbluth says that he let the comic strip off easy.
  • America (The Book), mocks Fillmore's use of Strawman Political rants in lieau of humor by posting a satirical Fillmore strip that begins with Fillmore talking about something that bugs him, and ending on the last panel with "Oops! I forgot to tell a joke!" Bruce Tinsley, the comic's author, didn't take this well, and proceeded to make a follow-up strip specifically blasting Jon Stewart.
• Role-Ending Misdemeanor: While Bruce Tinsley's DUI arrest in 2006 didn't hurt the strip in the long run, one of his strips about Rep. Ilhan Omar may have as he's been MIA from his own comic since late 2019.
