• Casting Gag: The Grand Finale has an inspired one as Kevin has "moved on" after Allison faking her death with a new girlfriend... who's played by Erinn Hayes, whose character's infamous offscreen death in between the first and second seasons of Kevin Can Wait provided the inspiration for Kevin Can F**k Himself.
• Fake American: Allison, who is Bostonian (complete with the accent), is played by the Canadian Annie Murphy.
• Irony As He Is Cast: Kevin is portrayed as a dumb Manchild, while his actor Eric Petersen is a pretty smart guy in real life; he's got a degree from Bradley University for theater, and actually teaches Sitcom Acting.
• Playing Against Type: Annie Murphy, best known as the bubbly and rather ditzy socialite Alexis Rose, as the scheming working class Broken Bird Allison.
• Star-Making Role:
  • Mary Hollis Inboden, who had previously appeared as recurring or bit characters in small sitcom roles, gets to shine as Patty here.
  • Similarly, Alex Bonifer, whose biggest part before then was as a bit character in a couple of episodes of Superstore, got a great deal of praise for his performance as Neil.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The pilot was originally supposed to be directed by Lynn Shelton, who passed away from acute myeloid leukemia in May 2020.
  • Neil was originally going to be killed off in the Season 1 finale, but the showrunner decided it would be more interesting to have him become part of the single-camera part of the show.
  • The original script for the Pilot Episode has a lot of differences from the final product, ranging from minor things like Patty and Neil's surname being "O'Sullivan" to more major things like Allison being pregnant and her and Patty teaming up from the start against both Kevin and Neil. The drama world is also shown encroaching on the sitcom world earlier and more often in a "cosmic glitch" way.
• Word of St. Paul: Mary Hollis Inboden, who plays Patty, has said that she thinks Patty has feelings for Allison.
