Trivia / J. Cole

Go To

  • Acting for Two: One of his trademark styles, especially notable in songs like "Lost Ones", "Can I Holla At Ya" and "Crunch Time". Also done as his character Kill Edward from KOD and his friend James from For Your Eyez Only.
  • Colbert Bump: Has given this to his friends most of which are signed to his Dreamville label, starting with Bas, who started off with scene-stealing features on "Cousins" from 'Truly Yours 2' and "New York Times" on 'Born Sinner'.
  • Creator Backlash: Cole very swiftly disowned "7 Minute Drill", his diss track against Kendrick Lamar, a mere two days after it and the Might Delete Later mixtape were released. Cole publicly admitted that he wasn't interested in making a diss track despite Kendrick taking shots at him (having mocked Cole and Drake on "Like That") and that he only did so out of peer pressure from fans expecting bloodshed. He apologized for the diss, and within a week, the song was pulled from all streaming platforms.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Judging by his mixtapes, he's a pretty big fan of Jay-Z and Kanye West. Whose label did he sign to?
    • Taken up to eleven on Born Sinner, where he discusses his fanboy tendencies for Nas (including that the latter didn't like Cole's song "Work Out") on the self-explanatory "Let Nas Down".
    • Then it hits a whole new level when Nas himself jumped on the remix, basically responding to Cole with the ways in which he respected his work and progress as an artist.
