Trivia / Inspector Gadget 2

Go To

  • Blooper: While the film goes through quite a bit of effort to not show Claw's face, sometimes the camera slips up and reveals Tony Martin's face.
  • California Doubling: Brisbane, Australia for Ohio.
  • Executive Meddling: Around 10 minutes were cut, partially to obtain a G rating.
  • Fake American: Due to being shot in Brisbane, most of the cast are from Australia. The exceptions being French Stewart (Gadget), Elaine Hendrix (G2), Caitlin Wachs (Penny), Jeff Bennett (voice of Brain) and D.L. Hughley (voice of the Gadgetmobile). Another exception is Jungle Bob's actor, Mick Roughan, who speaks in his natural Australian accent, which fits his character.
  • Franchise Killer: The film prevented a third live-action Inspector Gadget film being made. Talks of a reboot have been bandied about since The New '10s.
  • No Stunt Double: Elaine Hendrix, who played G2, performed all her own stunts. As shown in this behind the scenes footage, Hendrix had to learn to do backflips for the scene for where G2 splits in a half, which can easily be mistaken for a CGI replica of her torso, but it was indeed her.
  • The Other Darrin: All of the actors from the first film, with the exception of D.L. Hughley, were replaced in the sequel.
  • Prop Recycling: Par for the course, but it is nice to see the control panel from Scolex's remote-control van serving as Claw's do-everything console.
  • Technology Marches On: The film is set before patching/bugfix updates became common. Glitchy software can be fixed in 5 minutes with good Wi-Fi. Gadget is threatened with medical retirement and replacement over his glitches.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Matthew Broderick was in talks early on to reprise his role but ultimately backed out.
    • An animatic was released online of the opening scene, showing that the film was originally going to be more explicitly tied to the first film, with Dr. Brenda Bradford being mentioned.
