  • Referenced by...: In the Doctor Who serial "The Mind of Evil", the Master listens to "The Devil's Triangle" with a portable radio as part of a Left the Background Music On gag.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A pre-superstardom Elton John was booked as a session vocalist, but Robert Fripp rethought the matter and cancelled the appointment.
    • Both Bryan Ferry and Yes vocalist Jon Anderson auditioned to replace Greg Lake as vocalist, but they were ultimately turned down in favor of Gordon Haskell. When Ferry instead became the vocalist for Roxy Music, King Crimson got the band signed to their management group, E.G., with Peter Sinfield producing their debut album. One of King Crimson's later vocalists, John Wetton, would also serve as a touring bassist for Roxy Music in 1974. As for Anderson, he would contribute vocals for the first movement of the Title Track to Lizard, "Prince Rupert Awakes", which was out of Haskell's singing range.
    • Greg Lake recorded a guide vocal for "Cadence and Cascade", but ultimately left King Crimson in favor of what would become Emerson, Lake & Palmer before he could record a proper take in the studio. A remix of the song with Lake's guide vocal was officially released online in 2007 as a digital download before being included on the 40th anniversary edition of this album as a bonus track.
