• Science Marches On: Not only is Venus depicted as a tropical planet but it's stated that Venus' rotation is slightly faster than the Earth's. We now know that a Venusian day is actually longer than its year.
• Reality Subtext: Stanfield's Heel–Face Turn coming just as he lies dying echoes a few of Lovecraft's personal letters from around the same time, in which he abandons his earlier "reactionary" views and regrets that it took him until close to the end of his life to do so.
