Trivia / Hellboy Animated

Go To

  • Acting for Two: James Arnold Taylor plays the both the younger version of Professor Bruttenholm and Father Lupescu.
  • Creators Odd Ball: Both movies are the only adult animated projects that Tad Stones, Phil Weinstein, Matt Wayne, and Kevin Hopps took part in.
  • Recursive Adaptation: There were also comic books based on this continuity. So, comicbook adaptations of a cartoon adaptation of a comicbook.
  • Role Reprise: As noted above, Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, and John Hurt reprise their respective roles from the live-action film series as Hellboy, Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien, and Professor Bruttenholm. In fact, as the movies were released before The Golden Army, this was the first time Jones's own voice was heard as Abe (having been dubbed over by David Hyde Pierce in the first movie). The only exception besides Pierce is Jeffrey Tambor as Tom Manning, having been replaced by Jim Cummings.
  • Time-Shifted Actor: The younger Bruttenholm is played by James Arnold Taylor in flashbacks.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A third animated film, "The Phantom Claw", which was to be the debut of Lobster Johnson, had been planned (Heck, they even teased it at the end of Blood and Iron!), but it never came to fruition. And according to rumors, Lobster Johnson would've been voiced by Bruce Campbell.
    • There were also plans for a possible animated series, but it wasn’t greenlit.
    • "Sword of Storms" was inspired by discussions between Mignola and del Toro of possibly using Japanese mythology as the story focus for Hellboy 2.
