- California Doubling: Although the film is set principally in South America, most of the scenes set in the fictional South American country of San Carlos and rural Colombia were shot in Tagaytay City, Philippines. This explains the visibility of the Taal Volcano in some scenes.
- Creator Backlash: Chuck Norris is on record as saying that he does not like the finished film.
- Direct to Video: The film was released straight to home video rental in many countries.
- Fatal Method Acting: A helicopter crashed on the set and killed four crew members along with the pilot.
- In Memoriam: Five crew members were killed in a helicopter accident during filming. The film is dedicated in their memory. They were: Jojo Imperiale (pilot), Geoff Brewer (stuntman/Actor: Maj. Anderson), Gadi Danzig (cameraman), Mike Graham (key grip) & Don Marshall (gaffer).
- No Budget: The script that was filmed was a greatly pared-down and smaller version of what was originally planned. Cash-strapped Cannon Films could not afford the original draft.
- Real-Life Relative: Chuck Norris' brother Aaron directed.
- What Could Have Been:
- Lee Marvin was attached to reprise his role from the first film. However, his health had already been declining when he made that film, and he died in 1987.
- Michael Winner was going to direct, but Chuck Norris didn't like the script.
- Jean-Claude Van Damme was offered a role in the film but he turned it down to do Cyborg (1989).
- Working Title: Spitfire: Delta Force II.
