Trivia / Darkman II: The Return of Durant

Go To

  • Out of Order: This film has a few details that makes it feel this was supposed to release as the third film rather than the second (they were filmed simultaneously). The first is when his machines state this latest test is in the 4000s where in the 3rd film his latest test is in the 3000s. Another is when Brinkman tells Westlake he broke the 99 minute barrier to 127 minutes and explains to him how he did it, in the 3rd movie Westlake is still trying to figure out how to break 99 minutes.
  • The Other Darrin: Every character except Durant is recast, with Arnold Vosloo replacing Liam Neeson as Westlake. Vosloo was even edited into footage from the first film shown here as a flashback.
  • Prop Recycling: Westlake's Elaborate Underground Base and accompanying Cool Train for moving around the subway was reused in Blankman as Darryl Walker/Blankman's base.
  • Role Reprise: Larry Drake returns as Robert Durant, the only actor from the first film to return.
  • Sequel Gap: Released five years after Darkman.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: Filmed in 1993, but released direct-to-video in 1995.
  • Technology Marches On: Durant's limo is stated to have a 10 disc CD changer in the trunk, in addition to the armour plating and bulletproof glass. At the time, CD changers were infamously large and could only be installed in the trunk (which makes it awkward to actually add or remove any CDs), but just a few years later they would become compact enough to mount in the dashboard.
  • What Could Have Been: Sam Remi told Larry Drake there would be a third film featuring Durant, which was ultimately never made.
