  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: After allegations that Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted multiple other males (including underage boys) broke in late 2017, a screencap of his character Jonathan Irons talking about a "great junior high" circulated around the Internet. However, this line never actually appears in the game, and the "subtitles" were almost certainly added to the screencap as a very dark joke.
  • The Danza: Gideon, voiced by Gideon Emery.
  • Defictionalization: Averted. Despite what Donald Trump claimed, the F-52 Fighter Jet he said was delivered as a shipment to Norway doesn't exist in real life.
  • Make-A-Wish Contribution: The Gingerbread Exo suit was a request from Julian, who was contacted by the Make a Wish foundation due to his terminal illness. His name can be seen on the shirt.
  • Referenced by...: The "Press F to pay respects" scene is referenced by the title of DJMAX Respect, and its title screen instructs the player to "Press X to pay RESPECT."
  • Technical Advisor: To help develop the game's narrative, Sledgehammer Games worked with military advisors, futurologists, and a scenario planner from the US Department of Defense and asked them what they believed to be the biggest source of conflict for the future, to which the consensus was that in the form of a private military company gone rogue, forming the basis of the Atlas Corporation.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Troy Baker, the game originally had a darker and more intense ending; when Irons disables Gideon and Mitchell's exosuits, he tells them every movement needs a martyr and then commits suicide by using his control of Mitchell's prosthetic arm to make Mitchell shoot him in the head. Ultimately, advertising told them that ending was unpublishable, and instead went with a more Hollywood ending in which Mitchell drops Irons off the top of a building after a witty one-liner. Even the one-liner was cut and Mitchell doesn't speak outside of cutscenes.
