• The Character Died with Him: Inverted. When Erica Templeton disappeared in late Season 11, she was reportedly supposed to be found alive. But after Mark Priestley's death late in the production of the season, the story was resolved with Erica being found dead (Jolene Anderson felt she couldn't continue in the role) and Mark's character Dan Goldman leaving the hospital to deal with his grief.
• Died During Production: Mark Priestley committed suicide in August 2008, with his last produced episode coinciding with the resolution to a story arc involving his character's wife disappearing.
• In Memoriam:
  • Season 9's "Love and Hate" ended on one to Belinda Emmett (Jodi Horner), who had lost a long battle with cancer.
  • Seasons 11's "Echoes" featured a tribute to Mark Priestley, from John Howard, which included a PSA for Lifeline.
• The Other Darrin: Professor Richard Craig was played by Rod Mullinar in Season 1, replaced by Robert Coleby from Season 4 onward.
• The Pete Best: Dr. Peter Morrison (Andrew McKaige), a main cast member until early season 2 and one of Terri's closest friends in the hospital, though he was rarely involved in the medical storylines outside of being a psychiatric consult. His departure coincided with the arrival of Dr. Mitch Stevens (not the same kind of doctor), who lasted much longer and had more of an impact thanks to his Will They or Won't They? relationship with Terri.
• Reality Subtext: The final scenes of Season 11's "Spinning Out". It's fairly clear that while the characters are reacting to Erica's murder, the actors are reacting to Mark Priestley's suicide.
• Real-Life Relative:
  • Robert Coleby (Professor Richard Craig) and his son Conrad Coleby (Scott Zinenko).
  • Veteran actor Graeme Blundell played the father of recurring ward clerk Tony Hurst, played by his son Jake Blundell.
• You Look Familiar: John Howard appeared as lawyer Jonathan Healey in three episodes in Season 4 before returning in Season 7 as Doctor Frank Campion. Several other regular cast members had also appeared in earlier episodes, including Paul Tassone, Wil Traval, Mark Priestley and Alexandra Davies.
