- Rule The World, inspired by the film Stardust. Especially when performed at at the closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games, given lead singer Gary Barlow lost his baby daughter only a few days previously. His voice cracking in the opening verse caused a lot of damp eyes.
- Said It All might be one of the most depressing Break Up Songs ever written, mostly for how hopeless the situation seems:When the tears fall awayAnd there's no conversationThere's nothing left to breakThat's not already brokenYou're staring into spaceAnd every inch of silenceBeen standing here for days, and days, and days...
- The Circus, especially since Reality Subtext means it can easily be read about being the then-fraught relationship of the rest of the band (but especially Gary) with former member Robbie Williams, the humiliation of their own attempts at solo careers (especially Gary's), or both:Everybody loves a circus showBut I'm the only clown you'll ever knowAnd now you can applaud my best mistake
- Absolutely tons in For The Record, the documentary about the band they produced in 2005, just prior to the reunion:
- Biggest would be Howard's admission that when the band split up, he was so depressed he briefly contemplated throwing himself into the river Thames.
- Gary, when asked about the failure of his solo career, especially compared to Robbie's:Gary: I didn't want to be something I wasn't. [pauses, voice cracks] Maybe I should have done. [Tearful Smile] Maybe I should have tried that.
- And when Robbie is asked about Gary's comparatively happy family life, he at first laughs it off ("Fourteen BRITs, fuck off!") Then...Robbie: In all seriousness... I would trade everything I have for that.note
- The final scenes where Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason are all reunited, and sit around wondering whether Robbie will join them. He doesn't. Which became much Harsher in Hindsight in 2011, when Robbie said he was never actually told the rest of the band would be reuniting, and the producers lied to him just to enhance the drama of it all.
