Tear Jerker / Punisher: War Zone

Go To

  • As always with The Punisher, the deaths of his family is played for max pathos. Early on in the film, he comes across the grave of his wife and kids, marked with a streak of blood. He desperately tries to wipe the blood away as flashbacks to the picnic massacre hit him, resorting to futilely hitting the tomb over and over... Before he collapses and just weeps. Frank may be a calculating crime killing machine, but he's still a human - heartbroken, lost and vulnerable.
  • Frank having to put Carlos out of his mercy, after he failed to protect the Donatellis. It hits even harder when the next scene takes place in a church, hinting at Frank's more humane side.
  • Likewise, the end result of Jigsaw's Sadistic Choice...
Frank: You won't feel a thing, Micro. (Boom, Headshot!)
  • Even Jigsaw himself can be pitiable in one scene with Loony Bin Jim. His Facial Horror is so hideous he can't even look at his own reflection without just breaking down into tears. He's a Narcissistic crime boss and is a total psycho through and through, but his misery does show that, even for villains, such awful injuries can leave nasty scars.
  • When Frank shoots Loony Bin Jim instead of Micro, Jigsaw seems to just snap. He shoots down Micro and tries to kill the Donatellis, before fighting Frank like a frenzied lunatic. They were both horrible, godawful folks, but even for Jigsaw it isn't entirely unreasonable to melt down over the loss of your one and only true friend and brother.
  • The Donatellis are clearly struggling after the loss of Nicky, whom Frank accidentally shot and killed. While Frank does help them by the end of the film, Angela understandably takes a while to trust him after the murder, even pointing a gun at him the second she sees him with Grace. Worst is, Frank does nothing about it, just offering them money and standing there as if he was ready to die for his mistake...and maybe reunite with his own family. Of course, she drops the gun and tells him to leave, but damn...
