  • Despite being both vicious, sadistic psychopaths, Jigsaw and "Loony Bin Jim" genuinely care for each other and share some tender moments. One particular moment is when Jigsaw looks at himself in a mirror (one of many) in a building he's using for a meeting and breaks down due to seeing his disfigured face; "Loony Bin Jim" then comforts him, saying that he won't have to look at his face anymore and proceeds to smash all the mirrors in the building to Jigsaw's joy and amusement. Not to mention, when Jim is being released from the asylum, he comments his sibiling's new visage with totally sincere "you look fantastic, brother". If Jigsaw got a similar comment from anybody else, he would undoubtedly take it as a joke at his expense and instantly murder the person responsible, but in this case, he knows his brother really means it, instantly feels better and gives Jim a hug.
  • Gruff ex-gangbanger Carlos Cruz playing with Grace while bodyguarding the Donatellis is pretty cute. Too bad it leads to the Mood Whiplash of the villains finding the place.
  • During Frank's 10-Minute Retirement, he makes sure to give Micro enough money for a "retirement package."
  • Detective Soap lets Frank go after his arrest, so that Frank can help save Angela and Grace from Jigsaw, despite knowing that doing so will be hard to explain away and may endanger his career.
  • Frank's mercy killing of the reformed gangbanger Carlos. Having earlier denied that a criminal could reform...
Carlos: I'll See You in Hell.
Castle: I see you anywhere near hell, I'll kick your ass out.
  • How gentle and friendly Castle is around little Grace Donatelli. Also a Tear Jerker, as she reminds him of his late daughter Lisa.
  • During the climax of the film, when Jigsaw forces Castle to make the sadistic choice in which he must shoot either Grace Donatelli or Microchip with the remaining bullet Castle has left or else both will be killed instead, Chip immediately tells Castle to shoot him, willingly opting to sacrifice himself to save Grace, a little girl he barely knows, because she's 'just a kid'. Doubles as a Tear Jerker, as the guy just lost his mother.
  • When Frank is talking with Angela Donatelli, the widow of the FBI agent he accidentally killed, at the end of the battle with Jigsaw, Angela mentions that she and her husband would argue about the Punisher on occasion and her husband always said Frank was "one of the good guys". In the comics Frank dislikes the idea that he's anything to admire, but in his own way he seems to appreciate the sentiment behind Angela's comment here, grateful that someone in law enforcement appreciated his actions without going so far as to plan to imitate him.
