They're all gone.note
月刊OUT was in print during The '70s, The '80s and The '90s, where action and drama dominated most anime, so avoiding Tearjerker moments is near-impossible. Naturally, this page includes spoilers, most notably for Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Raideen, Xabungle, the Robot Romance Trilogy (Combattler V, Voltes V, Daimos) and Space Runaway Ideon. These range from character deaths, to major plot elements, to endings.

月刊OUT was also known for giving tributes to anime and manga creators when they passed away, often from fans who grew up with their works.

Even without that, this page is horribly depressing.

Spoilers are unmarked. Continue at your own risk.

The tribute to Prince Heinel:
I don't think I have much to say about Prince Heinel's popularity here. After all, at the during the airing of "Voltes V", when Heinel appeared on the screen, he was massively popular amongst female fans, and he was often praised in essays and reviews. He has wavy blonde hair, sharp eyes, slender arms and legs, elegant demeanor like aristocrats, eyes, mouth, and a firm voice (provided by Osamu Ichikawa). Some time after Gohl was captured, his wife Lozaria gave birth to his child, Heinel, and died shortly thereafter. Zambajil also tried to eliminate Heinel, but the power of Oral, Heinel's grandfather and younger brother of the former emperor, prevented him from doing so. Heinel, who lost his parents, was raised by his grandparents without knowing anything about his father except that he was a traitor, and because of this he was also ostracized by the other nobles. Luckily for Heinel, one day a chance came for him to redeem his name - Zambajil decided to send Heinel as an expeditionary force to Earth, far away from Boazania, with the aim to conquer earth and bring glory to the Boazanian empire. However, he put Zuhl, his minion, in the conquest army, to kill Heinel on Earth. Thus, Heinel is isolated from the Boazan Empire and ends up fighting the mighty Voltes Team and the Earth Defense Force.

Zambajil was one of the first characters written into the drama of "Voltes V". He is one of the most important characters who are indispensable to the story in order to highlight the discriminatory society of Boazania. During his long battle with Voltes V, Heinel committed many unforgivable atrocities. However, Heinel, who many girls were passionate about, was not simply a decoration of the work with beauty. Earlier, I mentioned his horn as a "charm point," but that was the cause of his father's continued fight against his younger brothers, and his death due to his purity. Here, let's take a look back at what Heinel's strange life and destiny were like from the materials written in the planning stage of "Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V".

In the final episode, he realizes how meaningless the path he has walked is and dies, but his soul is not saved in the end. It is often said that Heinel will not know the secret of his birth by the end of the anime, and repent fpr his deeds, and join forces with Voltes V in the fight to overthrow the Boazan Empire. It is true that there was a wishful speculation from the fans' point of view, it was the last bastion of hope to forgive the sinful Heinel and give him salvation and peace. However, the creators never tried to extend a helping hand to Heinel. If such a thing were to happen, Heinel must have decided that even if he lived, he would finish his story. That's why he was a clean and single-minded young man until the end, but in the end, he had no choice but to follow the path of ruin.

From the crumbling tower of Boazania's golden castle on fire, Heinel could have jumped down into the new world where everyone awaits, with his younger brother Kenichi desperately trying to help him. is. But he dared to throw away all that waited for him, surrender himself to the flames of fate, live the life of a proud Boazan nobleman to the end, and vanish forever from our sight.

It would be a mistake to just keep him in my heart as just a handsome young man. Before we can think of Heinel's beauty, we have never celebrated his life (for whatever reason, he has died unrequitedly as a man of tragedy, for his conduct was sinful). Only the horned could exercise the privileges of the nobility, while the rest were called hornless and treated like the former slaves of the earth.

Boazania is located in a globular cluster (Messier 4, NGC6121) in the direction of Scorpio, about 14,000 light-years away from the Earth. Boazania has completed a spaceship by warp, and is building a large space empire by colonizing nearby habitable planets one after another. The conquered planets had a political form similar to that of Earth's medieval Europe, where they became the fiefdoms of the nobles who commanded the conquering armies, which were also administered by the Boazan emperor. After the 123rd emperor died, and a struggle for succession to the throne broke out between the eldest son of the emperor's younger brother, La Gohl, and the son of the emperor's concubine, Zambajil. However, once Gohl was exposed for his lack of horns, he was taken away. He then escaped to earth, where he married Mitsuyo and had three children: Kenichi, Daijiro and Hiyoshi.

Heinel is a tragedy that should be mourned. If you have time to resent the creators for killing him, why not think about what really killed him, and whether Heinel's tragedy was merely an event inside a bigger tragedy? I believe that his death was the minimum of what was necessary to prevent Voltes V from being buried among other works as a mere robot animation.

Rest in peace, Heinel. You are forever in my mind.

February 1980 issue

  • Once again, the magazine has a tragic (yet beautiful) tribute to the Prince of Voltes V.
Dr. Kentaro Go, also known as Prince Gohl, was imprisoned in a dungeon on Boazania, where he was rescued by the liberation army led by General Doyle. The rebels who admired Gohl welcomed the doctor with cries of joy, and began to march towards the Golden Castle, where Zambajil lived. On the other hand, Boazan was losing and nobles were surrendering en masse. Heinel, trying to protect the pride of his nobility, was restrained by a desperate Katherine, but he shook her off, and advanced on a white horse to the golden castle where the liberation flag fluttered. And what he saw inside the castle...it was too despicable. It was the appearance of timid aristocrats.

Heinel was the last Boazanian headed to the battlefield, alone on a white horse. "Forgive me Katherine! I do not fear death," he claims. As he was shot at, a carriage blocked the way.

A woman martyred for love, this was the end of Katherine. "It's no use fighting now. You can't risk your life in a losing battle." she told Heinel, yet he pulled out his sword and told the nobles "Those who run away from here will be executed in the name of Boazania." One aristocrat aimed Hat einel from the shadow of the pillar...only to shoot Katherine who was chasing him. Heinel tightly embraced Katherine, who had fallen to the bullet. Before succumbing to her injuries, Katherine looked at Heinel, and admitted "This is the first time... it's the first time you've held me... I'm happy. I want to be like this forever...". After professing her love for Heinel, Katherine's body helplessly went limp.

From an early age, he was despised as a traitor's son, and she continued to love Heinel, despite that stigma. And now she was dead. Heinel slowly opened his eyes while holding Katherine and muttered in a suppressed voice. "Katherine, I will not die. Until I defeat Voltes..."

The Golden Castle was almost completely conquered by Voltes V and the rebels, and Dr. Go met his sons, Kenichi, Daijiro and Hiyoshi. They were delighted to see one another again. Now, only the problem of Zambajil remained. La Gohl advised Zambajil to surrender. Through the loudspeakers, the strong voice of the doctor resounded in the castle. Meanwhile, Heinel watched the flames of the Boazanian hero Godol..."To give one's body to the torch would bring glory to the Boazan Empire", he thought. He called out to the statue "It is said that if a lover of the empire throws himself into the blazing flames of the Godol, then Godol will save the nation from disasters.

Heinel draws a sword. The battle isn't over!!! It is never ending, continue until the last person is standing. Heinel and Kenichi slashed violently, but then Dr. Go realized that Heinel's dagger looked familiar. It was the dagger he had entrusted to Lozaria, his wife when he was on Boazania. The sudden fact hit Dr. Go: The child Lozaria gave birth to in exchange for her life...that was Heinel. "Heinel... your mother is my wife Lozaria, Kenichi, Daijirou and Hiyoshi are your brothers!!!"

The irony of this made Heinel drop his sword, collapse, and weep. "What is this, what is this fight for... brothers fighting bloody battles?" he cried.

Then, Zambajil appeared with jewels all over his body and a hand grenade, with the expression of a madman. "Uncle! Stop this fighting!" cried Heinel, but Zambajil shouted in maddened voice that everything was done by Heinel and that he should be killed.

Burning with anger, Heinel threw a dagger at Zambajil, and the grenade exploded. The floor rose and separated Heinel and Kenichi. At that moment, Heinel instinctively finds himself protecting him from the blast. What was going through Heinel's mind as he stared at Kenichi? A crack ran through his voice. "Brother" he said, as the flames burned. Heinel then turned to La Gohl. Then he whispered in a small voice, "Father!!!" This must have been the first word Heinel said since he was born... The flames burned more and more violently, and eventually enveloped Heinel...

And on this day, the long dark age of Boazania came to an end, and the days of strong revival of people began towards a new history.

How was it, the final episode that lives up to the name of a dramatic robot anime. I recapitulated the story, and even my eyes were full of tears... I'm stupid.

March 1981 issue

  • On the sixth page, there's an illustration of Char, Garma, Charkin, Richter, Heinel, Zaral and Garuda next to each other in space, but their eyes are shut and their corpses are decaying. Just another cruel reminder that all these beloved characters are dead.note

April 1981 issue

  • While it's lighthearted, the Mobile Suit Gundam parody comic really highlights how Garma is The Chew Toy. The comic opens with him professing his love for Icelina to Char, being surrounded by hearts just by the mere thought of her...and then when the two go to meet her, Char humiliates Garma in front of her by hitting him with a plank of wood. Garma entrusted Char with something important to him, only for Char to use it against him last-minute. And yet, in later issues, Garma still views Char as a benevolent friend.

April 1987 issue

  • The issue features a JAV advert of a woman being restrained by tentacle monsters and assaulted, with a pained expression on her face with her eyes shut and mouth open. The advertisement also features man trying to save her by electrocuting the monster, but the woman gets caught in the current as well. While it's illustrated, it doesn't make the content any less shocking.
