  • Tsutsuji's parents died in a car accident when she was 9. She gets taken in by her uncle Hiiragi and aunt Azami who ignore her in favor of their biological son. They all go on a trip to Mouseland without her leaving her to do chores all by herself. She reaches her limit when she remembers the last time she went to Mouseland with her parents 2 years ago and runs away to Uncle Kuroki's house.
  • In this episode, Karin's parents died in a car accident. At their funeral, Karin tried talking to their dead bodies as if they are alive as she was a young child at the time. Fortunately, Tsutsuji decided to raise her.
  • After Tachibana's stepdad Tokusa passed away in a car accident while trying to save him from being hit by the car, Tokusa's brother Kuroki adopted him but after he overheard Azami's mean words about not being his real child, Tachibana became rebellious, and their relationship became strained.
  • Tsutsuji ends up suffering from workplace harassment from Akane, and while sad, she ends up having Yuzuriha and Hiiragi looking out for her until Akane eventually quits due to suffering from her own harassment by an unknown stalker. Eventually, Yuzuriha quits as well, and we're dropped a huge bombshell: Yuzuriha was the stalker, and the the reason was because she had a best friend named Yuri whom she was in love with, who killed herself in high school due being bullied relentlessly... by Akane. Since then, Yuzuriha swore to avenge Yuri, and when she saw Tsutsuji suffering from the same abuse her beloved did, she acted in both revenge and to protect her. Yuzuriha leaves Tsutsuji with this knowledge, determined to continue her quest... but despite how extreme it is, one can't help but feel bad for her considering what she lost and how Akane clearly didn't learn or care from what her actions caused.
  • Tsutsuji finding out that Hiiragi and Akane were the ones behind a prank played at the summer festival. She also learns that when Hiiragi asked her on a date, which she declined, it was all a trick to humiliate her, and that they never thought of her as a real friend.
  • Tachibana lost his son in a foreign country after he was kidnapped. As a result, he got dementia at an early age and regretted not getting a dog when the chief advised him to do. For many years, he told people to get a dog if the person has a young baby boy.
  • There are two examples involving Karin:
    • In this story, Karin tried to take care of her old in-laws by herself since her husband Katsura died but due to their dementia, it was very difficult for her and the in-laws' children refused to help her. When they died, Karin felt relief but was very disgusted with herself for feeling that way, because the in-laws were nice to her in their younger days.
    • In another story, Karin is taking care of Hiiragi at a retirement home. He was at first courteous with her and they got along very well. Then one day, due to his dementia setting in, Hiiragi suddenly accused Karin of stealing his wallet but she kept denying it. He even started getting violent with her and refused to speak to her. They never made up and he later died of old age.
  • Yuzuriha was abused as a child by Azami. Years later, she married Tachibana and had Kuroki. But the stress of child care was taking its toll on her, and eventually when Kuroki threw a tantrum when Yuzuriha brought him in the house due to rain, she hit him and he accidentally hit his head. Kuroki was okay but Yuzuriha felt guilty and decided to let Tachibana take Kuroki back to his hometown so she can relax. However this meant moving back with Azami. Azami continued to abuse her daughter and she couldn't tell Tachibana. Unable to bear the abuse, she tried to kill herself but found herself in the hospital. Tachibana found out about the abuse and reported Azami to the police. The family reunited once again at Kuroki's sports event at school.
  • At first, it seems like Akane is being a Bridezilla after she throws a fit when the ring Hiiragi gives her isn't the one she wanted. Yuri, knowing what the mother of the groom is like then requests to have a private talk with Akane in order to get her side of the story. As it turns out, Akane was being steamrolled throughout her engagement and any decisions she made for her own wedding were ignored in favor for Azami's ideas, making the whole experience miserable for her. When she tried to voice her concerns about this, her fiancé and even her own parents brushed her off saying that her future mother-in-law only wanted the best for her and that she should be grateful. The ring was the final straw for her though as she wanted to at least have something that she and Hiiragi decided on and she was hurt that she couldn't even have that.
  • This episode which shows a more vulnerable side to Yuzuriha. After she finds out that Akamatsu has been three-timing her with her best friend Akane and Azami (who is only a minor in this episode), behind all three of their backs, she gets revenge on him by stranding him at a rest stop. She initially seems okay as she tells Akane that she's happy that she found out before the two of them got married and that she made the right choice by breaking up with him. However, she starts to cry midsentence, showing that it was still hard for her to break things off with someone she loved, and all Akane can do is comfort her.
  • Kuroki’s dysfunctional childhood and his eventual marriage proposal to his childhood friend Karin. Only for Karin to die from breast cancer and Kuroki’s grief leading him to refuse to ever fall in love with another woman in his life.
  • Karin dies in a car accident and her husband Tokusa’s grief over her death.
  • Here, Tsutsuji’s parents refusing to praise her even when she succeeds at something, compared to the other parents who praise their children regardless of their achievements. They even spoil her younger sister Yuzuriha until she became a spoiled brat. One day she snapped and hit Yuzuriha when she heard that the reason she didn’t want to participate in field day and threw a fit was because she wanted to stay home and play video games. They kicked her out and she had to live with her grandparents who were kind and praised her for the first time in her life. When she grew up and got married and had a daughter, her parents returned and tell her that Yuzuriha was sent to juvie for starting a fight, revealing that the reason they neglected Tsutsuji and spoiled Yuzuriha was in order to make Tsutsuji into the perfect human, believing that ignoring her and making her jealous of Yuzuriha would push her to work harder to increase the possibility of Tsutsuji being perfect which led to Tsutsuji having self esteem issues and Yuzuriha becoming a delinquent, they even have the gall to return and ask Tsutsuji if they can adopt her daughter for another attempt to raise a perfect daughter.
  • Azami is living a happy life with her husband Tokusa and their daughter Yuri when one day, Yuri gets a headache while playing and ends up passing out. Later on, in the hospital, Katsura diagnoses Yuri with cancer and tells her parents that she'll have 6 months to live at most. Upon hearing this news, Azami breaks down in tears and begs for him to do something but all he can do is offer his condolences. Azami ends up quitting her job to take care of Yuri in the hospital but despite trying her hardest, Yuri's condition didn't get any better so she had to see her daughter waste away and eventually stop smiling. At one point, she even blames herself for not being able to give birth to a child with a healthy body. Yuri is later put into child hospice at the recommendation of Azami's friend Tsutsuji and for a while, Azami and her family were able to live a relatively normal life with Yuri smiling once again. Unfortunately, the cancer eventually catches up to Yuri and she ends up dying in her parents' arms after they take her to see the cherry blossoms one last time.
  • Poor Tachibana. First his wife Yuri died in a car accident, which led to him becoming obsessed with preserving Yuri's legacy by keeping their food stand going. Instead, his attempts at raising up Azami to inherit the family business only led to her resenting him for making her spend all her free time at the stand. She then moved out without a word, leaving Tachibana all alone for almost a decade. Azami then told her daughter Karin that her grandfather was dead and discouraged her from buying from food trucks, all in the hopes of never having to meet Tachibana again. This ultimately leads to Karin not recognizing her own grandfather. Thankfully it gets better in the end when Karin convinces Azami to forgive Tachibana.
  • The episode begins with Azami passing away. Following her death, her husband Tachibana became an emotional wreck, quitting his job and spending all day crying in front of her altar. Their daughter Akane had promised Azami that she would take care of her father but there was only so much she could do, and she became worried that her father wasn't acting himself anymore. One day after hearing from her father that he doesn't care what happens to him after Azami's death, Akane gets overwhelmed by the fact that she still misses her mom and that her father seemingly gave up on life and begins to cry. She then lashes out on Tachibana saying that he's not the only one who misses Azami and runs off to her room.
  • Hiiragi and Azami told their two kids Katsura and Yuzuriha when they were very young that they had to become a doctor and a nurse respectively and that any other occupation was worthless. Whenever Yuzuriha and her brother didn't keep up with their parent's expectations, they were heavily disciplined and sent to bed without eating. After Katsura fails to get into medical school on his first attempt, his parents confine him to his room and force him to study until he does get in. When he finally does, Yuzuriha is initially happy as she thinks he'll be free now until their parents still expect him to study all day as they think of him as a failure due to not getting in the first time. When Katsura supposedly commits suicide, instead of feeling bad for what they have done, Azami and Hiiragi say that he was an embarrassment and that if they knew this would happen, they would have tried to give birth to another son.
