Go To

Curse of Darkness has several references to other works, as seen on the appearance and descriptions of some of Hector's weapons and equipment.

  • The Laser Blade weapon looks like a lightsaber when Hector and Isaac use it in cutscenes. Its inventory logo even resembles the Beam Sword from the Super Smash Bros. series.
  • Dragon Slayer is named after, and greatly resembles Guts's weapon from Berserk.
  • Nyoi-Bo is the Japanese equivalent of Ruyi Bang, the weapon used by Sun Wukong from Journey to the West.
  • Champion Glove's description references Rocky Marciano, the undefeated American boxer who died in a plane crash.
The rage of an undefeated champion who died in an accident is infused in these blood-soaked gloves.
  • The Force Glove is based on the Power Glove accessory of the Nintendo Entertainment System, even having the "power-G" label on its back.
  • The description of the Clown Shirt states that it is worn by the "heroic Vampire Hunter Comesafter C", making a reference to Vampire Hunter D in case you do not know what comes after the letter C.
  • The description of Hanzou's Clothes states that it is worn by the famous assassin from the Far East, referencing Hattori Hanzō.
  • The description of the Stone Mask references the similarly-named item from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which is used to summon vampires.
A shaman's stone mask, used in rituals where the heart of the victim is offered to a dark god.
  • Face Guard resembles the iconic hockey mask worn by Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th franchise. Its bloodstained appearance and the description also support this connection.
Exactly who this is, no one knows. But their latent power can still be strongly felt.
  • Iron Mask resembles the Sukeban Deka mask of Jagi from Fist of the North Star.
  • Masakado's Helm is a clear shout-out to the Japanese general named Taira no Masakado who lost his head.
Said to belong to a general whose neck was twisted. Still infused with his rage.
  • You can steal Tomato Juice from Dracula himself. What would tomato juice have to do with a vampire? The Daywalker Blade drinks tomato juice to sate his thirst for blood.
