Carrie and David's Popshop contains examples of:

  • Animated Credits Opening: The show's opening and closing are animated in a mixture of 3D and 2D animation. The backgrounds are flash-animated while the MP3 player spaceships are CGI-animated. Carrie, David, and Riff are represented as photorealistic 3D renders.
  • Excited Kids' Show Host: Both Carrie and David count as type one for this series, as it's geared to pre-schoolers.
  • Fake Interactivity: a lot. Carrie and David talk to the viewers almost all the time and ask them for their help, and they give them something they're using at the beginning which then becomes the plot point.
  • I Was Told There Would Be Cake: In "Yum Yum Yum", Carrie and David are given a cake by someone who they assume is the viewers at home. Needless to say, David gets sneaky and attempts to find every way to eat his slice without Carrie finding out, which almost ends up ruining their customer's planned song.
  • No Fourth Wall: In order to go alongside the Fake Interactivity.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In the episode "Yum Yum Yum", David hides a piece of cake inside the Singalongatron, and forgets all about it until the device goes wrong and Carrie reveals it - unfortunately for them, the device erases the chorus, which they have to re-record in time before the customer returns.
    David: Uh-oh!
    Riff: What no-o-o-ow?
Carrie: It looks like there's something stuck in the Singalongatron, but what? (puts her hand in the singalongatron) Cake?!
David: (shocked) My cake! Oops..., I'd forgotten I hid it in there!
Carrie: I knew you were up to something earlier.
Riff: Oh! You cakey meddler! How could you? (Alarm sound plays) The recording's damaged! We've lost the chorus! What are we going to do? We promised Luke's song!
David: It's OK, I can fix it. We can record the chorus again!
  • Once per Episode: Subverted, but in a majority of episodes the Singalongatron goes wrong for various reasons, normally resorting to the plot-device item to save the song.
  • "Sesame Street" Cred: A children's musical series presented by musician couple Carrie and David Grant. The two also provided the music and lyrics for the songs featured in the series, as well as co-devising the series with BBC Scotland, who produced the series.
  • Stock Footage: The beginning portion where Riff introduces the show is the same in every episode.
  • Those Two Guys: Carrie and David Grant themselves, a real-life musical couple.
  • Title Theme Tune: "Here's the place we wanna be, it's Carrie and David's Popshop..."
