Comic Books

  • In The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 2, one of Dr Moreau's creations is a toad that drives a motorcar. Ratty and Moly are also seen in a group shot. The nearest railway station to his home is called Wildwood.
  • In Grandville Bête Noire, the Big Bad is a toad, Baron Krapaud, who lives in a mansion called, inevitably, Toad Hall.

Literature

  • In Shtum, Ben describes Georg's friend Maurice as Toad of Toad Hall in a shiny charcoal suit.
  • In the Temps story "A Virus in the System", the narrator describes her Greek contact as resembling a toad, and when he starts smoking a cigar, adds "Toad of Toad Hall!"
  • Norwegian actor, comedian and author Trond Brænne wrote five mystery novels for kids about Bob, a dog who works as a private investigator. In the third of these books, Bob travels to England to work on a case, and happens to meet Mole and Toad in a pub. Toad brags about his "famous escapades" and the book about him that has been published all over the world — and is immensely disappointed to find out that Bob hasn't read the book and has no idea who he is.

  • Arthur:
    • In "The Great Sock Mystery", Pal and Kate try to trade something to Mr. Toad for D.W.'s missing sock. When Kate offers a set of keys to Mr. Toad, he asks her if they're to a motorcar, then turns down the trade, saying he's not supposed to drive anyway.
    • In "Shelter from the Storm", Ladonna is playing charades with her family and she imitates wind blowing. One of her siblings guesses The Wind in the Willows.
  • Rugrats (1991): In "The Santa Experience", Chas suggests that he dress up like Santa and come down the chimney on Christmas morning to make Christmas extra special for the babies. Drew likes this idea, but insists on having a professional actor play Santa. Chas retaliates, saying that he's a good actor, and bringing up that he got the title role in their fourth grade play of Wind in the Willows. Drew tells Chas that he was a tree, but Chas tells him that he was the Willow.
  • The Simpsons: In "Lisa Gets an A", Lisa has to do a test on Wind in the Willows. However, she becomes addicted to Bart's Dash Dingo video game and forgets to study, resorting to cheating so she doesn't get a Zero. She ends up getting an A+++, resulting in Springfield Elementary qualifying for a government grant, which they need the money from to update the school.
