In the French-speaking world, the comic strip Bécassine is pretty much an institution. Naturally this has lead to several parodies, spoofs and shout-outs:
Comic Books
- Cubitus has a couple:
- One gag depicts Cubitus as painter Michelangelo Buonarroti, thinking up new things to draw, among them Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Bécassine, Tintin and Alfred the penguin from Zig et Puce.
- In another story Cubitus and Sémaphore act in a parody of the comic strip Bernard Prince. After their boat sinks one of the side characters thinks: "Next time, I ask for a role in Bécassine!"
- Pierre Tombal: In one gag Pierre is removing several skulls into a grave, all of them modeled after famous cartoon characters, one being Bécassine.
- She also received a shout-out in Kid Paddle.
Music
- Michel Delpech wrote a song called "Bécassine" (1967).
- Georges Brassens wrote a song named "Bécassine" (1969).
- Chantal Goya wrote the song "Bécassine" (1979), which is possibly the most famous one, where Bécassine is called "ma cousine" (my cousin) in the refrain.
Puppet Shows
- In the French satirical puppet show Le Bébête Show, far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen was portrayed as "Pencassine", wearing the exact same bonnet and dress. This was a stab at his similar Breton roots and the fact that he always talked about a romanticized idea of ancient France that never quite existed that way. Before this, he was portrayed as a vampire wearing a German spiked military helmet; Le Pen sued the creators, and so they made the changes.
