- The Doctor Who New Adventures novel The Room With No Doors, one of the characters is a sci-fi geek named Joel who frequently references his favorite shows. At one point, Joel automatically responds to the question "What do you want?" with a forceful "Never ask that question!", followed by an embarrassed retraction and a more serious answer when the person he's talking to completely fails to get the reference.
