Go To

"A Strudel and a Hot American Boy Toy" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired February 29, 2024.

Sheldon wants to travel around Germany by train, but Mary won't let him. He decides to do it behind Mary's back, even bragging about it to Missy (but she is not impressed). Later, while in Weinheim, he gets off the train to buy a strudel, but it leaves with his backpack still on it. He calls Missy, but she doesn't help. He then calls the police and asks them for a ride back to Heidelberg, but they find him too annoying, and so they don't help him. He then has no choice but to walk 18 km back to Heidelberg. A few hours later, Missy calls Mary and tells her what happened. When Sheldon arrives home, disheveled, and claims that he was at the library, Mary doesn't punish him; instead, she lets him be overcome with guilt over having lied to her.

Meanwhile, Missy makes a new friend named Taylor. After George Sr. finds out that Taylor is a boy, Missy tells George that Taylor is gay, and George appreciates her openness. Cut to Missy and Taylor making out. Later, when Missy invites Taylor over, she asks George for permission to listen to music in her bedroom; George says yes, and tells her to close the door so that he doesn't have to hear it.

Meanwhile, Mary and George are writing letters to each other, as international phone calls are very expensive. Georgie gets the idea to write Mandy an X-rated love letter, which she initially finds creepy and off-putting, but she then realizes that she is attracted to Georgie. They then take a shower together.

Meanwhile, Connie and Dale are living together. They argue at length about Dale's guitar playing, Connie's snoring, and Dale's flatulence.

Tropes

  • Angry Guard Dog: While walking back to Heidelberg, Sheldon is chased by a vicious... miniature dachshund.
  • Description Cut:
    • Missy says that Taylor is gay, and then it cuts to the two of them making out.
    • Mary tells George how she set Sheldon straight about not riding the train alone. Cut to Sheldon on the train.
  • Love Letter: Mary finds George sending her letters romantic, since it reminds them of when they did the same while George was at Vietnam. Inspired, Georgie writes a love letter to Mandy, although the way he writes about her hot body doesn't lend itself to romance.
  • Missed the Bus: Sheldon decides to buy some strudel while the train is stopped at a station. The train leaves without him, his backpack with all his money still on the seat.
  • Police Are Useless: The two German cops Sheldon talks to don't want to give him a ride back to Heidelberg due to how annoying he is.
  • Shower of Love: Georgie's letter to Mandy is about how hot she is naked and how he wants to walk in on her in the shower. Mandy finds it creepy, but is moved nonetheless and invites him to join her in the shower. Later, George walks in on them.
  • Voiceover Letter: Constantly, since George and Mary choose to communicate with each other with letters (mainly to save on long-distance phone calls).
