  • Actor Allusion: Penn is described as looking like a hobbit, as Patton Oswalt has often mockingly described his appearance.
  • All for Nothing: In the end the city council passes the unpopular city ordinances driving away most of the boardwalk business, making the whole quest to stop the bombings pointless, apart from saving all the kids at the school.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The episode appears to make it look like Don was the bomber but it turns out to be Penn after all.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • Penn succeeded in gaining infamy and twisting the knife further since his bomb killed Logan.
    • Clyde ends up setting up a car business that's doing great for him; the only bit of karma he receives is that Keith refuses to be his friend, and even that doesn't bother him too much.
  • Downer Ending: Logan is dead, Penn gets the infamy he craved (with only 40% of the public actually believing him guilty), and income inequality in Neptune is now de jure thanks to the new beautification ordinances that forced most of the local businesses to sell out and the repeal of rent control which drove up real estate prices.
  • Jerkass: Even with the evidence uncovered that Big Dick was trying to force boardwalk businesses to sell out and hiring local goons to harass people, the city council still passes the ordinances he championed.
  • Never Found the Body: The episode doesn't show that Logan is dead after the bombing. Considering that earlier deaths including multiple decapitations were shown in all their glory, it seems an odd thematic choice for a central character to die effectively off-screen without so much as a funeral scene, unless you're trying to obfuscate the death.
  • Paper Tiger: It turns out Don's constant talk of being a big shot in Washington D.C. meeting major politicians was all a lie as he was nothing but a college drop-out who'd been living at an abandoned power plant outside the city and doing video chats from it.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Big Dick's push for new ordinances to gentrify Neptune succeeds, but he doesn't get to enjoy it since he was murdered.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!:
    • The boardwalk businesses pack up and leave when the city council passes the beautification ordinances.
    • The police chief leaves for San Diego.
    • Veronica herself decides to travel the country after Logan's death.
  • Time Skip: The final act takes place a year after Logan's death to showcase how Neptune has changed and Veronica is ready to move on.
  • Wedding Finale: The series finale ends with a wedding between Veronica and Logan, right off the heels of catching the Neptune Bomber and Logan almost being late due to a therapy appointment. And then the episode continues to the next day, where the location of the last bomb is finally discovered to be Logan's car. He's killed off, ending the series on a much darker note than the wedding implied.
  • Widowed at the Wedding: Logan dies in a bombed car shortly after his wedding with Veronica.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Logan and Veronica are married, ready to go on a honeymoon.... and then Veronica realizes that Penn planted another bomb.
