Go To

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: At first it looked like Charlie was going to get the flu after eating some food from Jake's dinner plate. Only Alan gets the flu instead after warning him not to.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Charlie and Alan both lose out on getting their dates with soap actress Desiree Barrington and her sister, due to them both getting the flu from Jake and an unfortunate audible misunderstanding.
  • Exact Words: Charlie asks Jake if he wants to see "a bunch of naked boobs". Smash cut to the three of them surrounded by old men with sagging chests relaxing in a sauna. Jake calls his uncle out for tricking him.
Jake: (in the sauna) This was a dirty trick, Uncle Charlie.
  • Fan Disservice: Alan, Charlie and Jake sitting in a steam room surrounded by middle aged old men with sagging man boobs.
  • Illness Blanket: After catching a cold, Alan spends most of the episode covered with a blanket.
  • It's All About Me: Evelyn immediately turns all attention away from Alan while he's sick with the flu and goes out to lunch with Rose instead.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Alan and Charlie when one brother tries to give his reluctant brother a chiropractic backrub. Unfortunately their dates show up and hear them through the door and it sounds like something else entirely, causing the sisters to get Squicked out and leave without telling them.
Charlie: I'm not a baby, I just don't like a grown man touching me! I let you do it to me once, that was enough!
Alan: And you liked it! Now let me get it over, and we can be ready for when the women get here!
  • Not What It Looks Like: Rose cuddles next to Alan on the couch trying to cure him with her healing energy. Then his mother walks in and assumes their doing something inappropriate on the couch that is, until Rose corrects her and tells her he's got the flu.
  • Parental Neglect: Evelyn ignores her son Alan when he's sick with the fly and asks for tea and chicken soup.
  • Sick Episode: Both Alan and Charlie spend the remainder of the episode suffering from the flu while trying to get ready for a double date.
  • Title Drop: Alan bemoaning about the last time he went on a blind double date with his brother and his date was an unfortunate tall Abhorrent Admirer.
  • Typhoid Mary: Alan believes that Jake is coming down with something and soon enough both Alan and Charlie become sick with the same illness Jake is supposedly coming down with. Despite Jake not showing any symptoms. Though Jake could be a asymptomatic carrier.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Both Charlie and Alan vomit over the deck due to the flu.
