Recap / Tuttle Twins S 1 E 5 Rising Tides And Dirty Deals

Go To

Summary: The Twins learn that big businesses like Big Bob's BBQ can sometimes produce laws that keep smaller businesses like Food Trucks from being able to survive. They visit Atlantis and try to stop the protectionism there before things get too wet.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: "Protectionist voices stop our choices."
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Big Bob bribes politicians, buys protectionist legislation, forces businesses to operate in isolated or dangerous locations...and wears white after Labor Day.
  • Dirty Old Woman: Grandma Gabby starts flirting with the police officer after he admits he's a terrible judge of age and asks if she's the twins' older sister.
  • Enemy Mine: Karinne helps the Tuttles out by getting some dirt on Big Bob and interviews with the people he's hurt to show at the city council meeting. She only does so because Big Bob's protectionist law hurts her corndog stand too.
  • Historical Domain Character: This episode's guest is Henry Haslet, an economics journalist who wrote for the Wall Street Journal and cofounded the Foundation for Economic Education.
  • Luminescent Blush: Karinne gets one of these when she accidentally admits to having a crush on Ethan.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Gabby refers to Mayor Jenkins as Mayor Jerkins.
Emily: Mayor Jenkins.
Gabby: Tomayto, tomahto.
