The heroes gather at the Enclave to prepare for the final battle.
- Animal Eyes: Eretria gets the kind of serpent-like eyes that we've previously seen her with in visions when the Warlock Lord finally takes full control over her.
- Big Damn Heroes: Jax turns up just in time to save Allanon and Mareth from being burned at the stake.
- Dual Wielding: Mareth picks up Allanon's sword in addition to her own, and using both, she manages to actually get the better of the Warlock Lord, at least for a moment.
- Enemy Mine: Jax and Slanter convince the Crimson leadership at Leah that they need to band together to stop the Warlock Lord.
- Implacable Man: The Warlock Lord takes a direct hit from Cogline's staff that throws him across the room, followed by a hail of subsequent shots that reduce that part of the room to rubble... and then comes walking back, looking faintly annoyed.
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Lyria and Wil both try to shake Eretria out of her possession while she's mopping the floor with them.
- Internal Reveal: Wil tells Mareth that she's now legally the Queen of Arborlon.
- Oh, Crap!: The Warlock Lord gets this look on his face when he realises that Bandon has taken his teachings a little too much to heart.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Wil is wryly surprised that Allanon actually gives him what amounts to a pep talk, rather than a lecture about not getting complacent.
- The Power of Love: Allanon muses that he might have been wrong to dismiss this, since his falling in love with Pyria led to Mareth now being there to take over after him. Whether he's right or this trope is subverted is ambiguous— later, during the fight against the Warlock Lord, Allanon and Mareth's love for each other turns out to be an active disadvantage, first because Allanon turns away to check on Mareth and gets sucker-punched for it, and then when Mareth can't bring herself to strike a killing blow on someone who looks like Allanon.
- Psychic Nosebleed: The Warlock Lord gets this as Eretria fights back against his efforts to control her.
- The Starscream: Bandon finally gets it through his head that the Warlock Lord isn't about to share any of his power with him, and tries to usurp him. It doesn't turn out too well for him.
- Unexpected Successor: Wil tells Mareth that she's the only remaining member of the Elven royal family, now that her cousin Ander is dead, his older brothers both pre-deceased him, and Amberle is a tree. As the half-breed daughter of King Eventine's sister Pyria raised in secret, obviously Mareth never expected to inherit the throne, and most of her prospective subjects don't even know that she exists.
- Would Hurt a Child: The Warlock Lord, to the surprise of no one. A small boy previously seen at the Enclave is found dead at his hand, along with a lot of adults.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Allanon tells Wil to remember his successes, not just his failures. For Allanon, that's practically glowing praise!
