Recap / The Secret Show S 1 E 10 The Secret Room

Go To

Anita and Victor are sent to the house of Robert Baron to uncover their secret room.

Guest starring Tom Baker as Robert Baron.

Changed Daily's Name: Patty Cake.

Secret Tropes Uncovered:

  • An Aesop: Listen to your kids, parents. If you repeatedly ignore them, then you truly won't know what they want. Giving them the moon and the stars when all they want is your attention is a bad way to parent.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Victor's de-aging device is on the fritz, and gets toggled off when being hit by something. The episode builds up him being discovered by the Baron bumping into him, but they get a call at the last minute, and stop before they trigger the faulty de-aging device.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: "Totally untested und highly dangerous!" does not originate from Professor Professor. Doctor Doctor said it in the previous episode. This episode, however, does mark the first time that Professor Professor uses it, though.
  • Large Ham: They really got their mileage out of Tom Baker's voice, as the Baron is constantly in the mode, often evilly laughing and angry at being deceived.
  • Literal Metaphor: The baron wants to literally give the stars and the moon to his young son.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: The Baron using a large magnet to bring the moon closer to the earth.
  • Once an Episode:
    • The Fluffy Bunny Show: Sweet Little Granny is tilted to the side with an industrial carjack to clear the time-slot.
    • After the title sequence jump, Anita and Victor land on the walls of Robert Baron's manor with toilet plungers as suction cups.
    • Changed Daily's name is "Patty Cake".
  • Running Gag: The Baron being deceived. This happens three times:
    • Professor Professor dressing up as a lady, unbeknownst to him who looks like the spitting image of his late wife Priscilla Priscilla.
    • Getting corn on the cob for dinner, which the Baron doesn't want as it directly led to losing his wife.
    • Victor and Anita disguising themselves as 8 year olds to infiltrate the mansion, then being caught later on in the secret room.
  • Shout-Out: When the baron is asked to shut down the magnet, Professor Professor shouts over the wind for him to "Reverse the Polarity". Doubles as an Actor Allusion, as the Fourth Doctor was famously played by Tom Baker, and "Reverse the Polarity", while not coined by him, was used quite a lot as his tenure on Doctor Who.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Professor Professor dresses up as a lady for the great majority of the episode (despite initially not wanting to), but at the end of the episode, he continues to wear it as he's "visiting a friend".
