Tropes

  • Broken-Window Warning: Dijonay got from Sticky a rock that she believes is a paper weight, but Penny deduces that the rock was likely thrown through her window with a note tied to it warning Dijonay to leave him alone. Dijonay doesn’t understand and exclaims “At least he thought of me enough to throw something my way, miss empty-handed!”.
  • Double Standard: It's not lost on Lacienega that there's something biased about she and her friends were automatically suspended for the vandalism without proof, while Johnny only gets a slap on the wrist by apologizing, implying he's only getting off easy because of his wheelchair.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Zoey rightfully calls Lacienega out on making an unfunny joke about Johnny being disabled.
  • Irony: When Johnny guilt trips that his wheels are the reason she's breaking up with him, Penny begs to differ. In fact, she remarks that on the contrary, his wheels are the reason she went out with him (if partly out of pity).
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Lacienega makes an excellent point when she asks why Johnny only needs to give an apology after admitting to the vandalism while she and her friends were suspended without any proof that it was them.
  • Misplaced Retribution: While the "I Love Penny Proud" graffiti on the school is punishable, Mr. Cartison assumes Penny and her friends were responsible, so he suspends them all.
  • Only Sane Woman: For once, Lacienega takes on this role. When her and the other four are suspended, she’s the only one who is worried and upset (she’s also worried about their parents finding out).
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Penny gives a satisfying one to Johnny when she's had enough of not only his rotten attitude, but the fact that he ruined her family's ski trip.
Penny: You need a personality check, Johnny. You're rude, obnoxious, inconsiderate. You disrespected my parents, my grandmother, me! You're not a nice person, Johnny. But my family? They are nice people, and I'm sorry I ever brought you around. So, why don't you break?
  • Wheelchair Woobie: Invoked. Johnny tries to come across as that poor, pitiable boy stuck in a wheel, and for a while, Penny buys it. But later on, it turns out Johnny isn't so sympathetic, as he merely exploited his being in a wheelchair to get special treatment.
  • You Are Grounded!: Trudy grounds Penny for sneaking out with her friends to find out the culprit for the graffiti. Then again, it's implied that Trudy did un-ground Penny for it, as she was allowed to attend the ski trip.
