What If... Luz and Anne switched places?

Alternate take on: "New World, No Friends"

"Here we are in the town of Wartwood, a small town in the southern area of Amphibia, a town set in its ways and slow to change, other amphibians are not welcomed easily in this place. So a species that is entirely unfamiliar would be even less welcomed. And unfortunately this is the situation that thirteen year old Luz Noceda currently finds herself in..."
The Guardian

When Luz and Anne get stuck in Wartwood and Tadpole Pond respectively, they find themselves having very different experiences.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Alternate Universe: The timeline shows Luz ending up in Wartwood, staying with the Plantars and granted with the power of the blue Calamity Gem of Heart while Anne is sent to Tadpole Pond, stays with Uodeela and her apprentices and is linked to the purple Gem of Courage.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Hop Pop dies when Sasha and Grime feed him to the flytray, which causes Luz to unlock her Calamity powers and kill Grime while destroying Toad Tower as revenge. Uodeela takes Anne to Wartwood where she reunites with Luz, where Uodeela and Valeriana explain the origins of the box and begin training Anne in using her powers. However, Sasha falls deeper under Belos' control and takes the Toad Army to storm Newtopia, where Marcy, Lilly, Gustav, and Amara currently are.
  • The Corruption: Belos has developed more control over Sasha in this timeline, and it's shown through her Calamity powers. Instead of pink, they're red like his magic.
  • Crush Blush: Luz and Anne share one after Luz hugs Anne in celebration for unlocking her powers.
  • Death by Adaptation: Hop Pop is killed by the flytrap since Luz failed to defeat Sasha in their duel. Soon after, Grime dies when Luz ends up destroying Toad Tower in vengeance.
  • Enhanced Punch: It only takes one punch for Luz to destroy Toad Tower, which is due to her activating her Calamity powers for the first time.
  • Luminescent Blush: Amara's whole face (rather Anne's face while Amara's in her body) flushes a deep pink when Anne asks if Amara would like to go swimming in the lake with her. Once Uodeela explains the courtship details behind it, Anne (in Amara's body) is subjected to her whole face turning bright red.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite losing Grime, Sasha still decides to conquer Newtopia with the other toad lords.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Sasha happily rubs it in Luz's face that she has nothing to offer in exchange for Hop Pop's life being spared, even announcing that she ruined Luz and Anne's friendship. When Hop Pop dies, Luz unlocks her Calamity powers and destroys Toad Tower with one punch, which results in Grime's death.
  • Point of Divergence: The timeline is a result of what would happen had Luz and Anne not only ended up switching where they stayed in Amphibia, but also switched Calamity powers.
  • Refusal of the Call: Anne turns down Uodeela's offer to learn magic as it doesn't interest her.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Uodeela doesn't get stuck in her Red Heron form and Fens lives to see Sasha attempt to conquer Newtopia.
  • Villain Ball: Luz never would've gotten her powers or killed Grime if Sasha had just spared Hop Pop's life and not bragged that she ruined her friendship with Anne.
