Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 1 E 14 Ice To Meet You

Go To

A hot day in Canterlot is interrupted by the appearance of an icy alien convict called Gelidafur. As he robs the jewelry stores and banks in Canterlot, searching for valuable gems and alien currency, Flash attempts to stop him.

  • Cliffhanger: The final scene of the chapter has Vilgax, now fully healed of his injuries, exit his Healing Vat, and declare he will get the Omnitrix himself.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: The Plumbers only arrive to retrieve Gelidafur after he has already been defeated and captured by the heroes.
  • Failures on Ice: Gelidafur freezes parts of the road in Canterlot, creating havoc for drivers. It is also a major problem for speedsters like XLR8 and Rainbow Dash.
  • Famous, Famous, Fictional: When Gelidafur is enraged at seeing nothing but human cash in a bank vault, he asks "Where's the gold? The jewels? The taydens?" with the bank workers not knowing what the last one even is.
  • Foreshadowing: In the penultimate scene of the chapter, Flash and Shining talk about how long Flash will be able to keep his alien forms and the Omnitrix a secret, with Shining warning him he won't be able to keep it forever and it will only be a matter of time before everyone finds out. This would eventually come to fruition next season.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Rainbow Dash gets a nasty cut on her arm while fighting Gelidafur, which is enough for the others to have her sent to the hospital and miss out on the rest of the fight.
  • Harmless Freezing: Gelidafur freezes several people in ice, but they all are freed with apparently no permanent damages. It seems that as long as they aren't entirely encased in ice, or at least their heads are free, they are fine, with Gelidafur threatening to freeze someone completely as a death threat. The one person he does encase entirely, XLR8, manages to thaw himself out with his speed.
  • An Ice Person: Gelidafur, due to being a Polar Manzardill, has the ability to shoot ice lasers from his mouth.
  • Mistaken Identity: Gelidafur mistakes Flash's alien forms for Plumbers, due to the Omnitrix symbol on them looking like a Plumber badge.
  • Plot-Irrelevant Villain: Vilgax becomes one for the chapter. Seeing Gelidafur's escape pod heading for Earth and close to where the Omnitrix is, he decides to send a surveillance drone to gain more intel on whoever wields the Omnitrix, and possibly discover their identity. The drone lingers in the background throughout the chapter and constantly gets caught in the crossfire of various battles, is never able to see Flash in his human form, and is ultimately destroyed by complete accident without anyone realizing it was ever there. Though this is subverted in the final scene, when Vilgax declares he will retrieve the Omnitrix himself.
  • Puny Earthlings: Gelidafur has a very low opinion of humans, believing that since most of them don't have any special abilities like most other aliens in the universe, even the Badass Normal Revonnahganders, he just sees them as "lame".
  • Villain No Longer Idle: Vilgax exits his Healing Vat, now fully healed and with cybernetics that make him bigger and better than ever, declaring he will deal with the wielder of the Omnitrix himself.
  • Wham Episode: The Plumbers make contact with the group in order to retrieve Gelidafur, giving Shining Armor a Plumber badge so they can contact him again later. As they leave, Vilgax, finally recovered from his injuries, declares he will retrieve the Omnitrix himself.
  • Worthless Currency: Gelidafur tries to rob the Bank of Spade Street, which is said to have tons of gold in its vault. When he forces the employees to open it though, it is filled with nothing but regular human money. The employee explains their vault is cash only and they use it in place of things like gold or jewels, but the money is equal to many gold bars. Gelidafur doesn't care and considers it all worthless, saying he is looking for alien currency, or valuables like gems and gold.
