- Closest Thing We Got: The theme song says that Fran got the nanny job because, "she had style, she had flair, she was there." In the actual pilot, the third quality is pretty much the only one that got her the job, at least initially.
- Chaos Architecture: The interior of the Sheffields' house is completely different from the rest of the series. The biggest difference is that the front door and the staircase are on the left in this episode; for the rest of the series, they'd be on the right.
- Establishing Character Moment: Each character gets a moment.
- Fran: Rather than letting her longtime boyfriend push her away and fire her, she stands up for herself by telling him to Take This Job and Shove It and then comes back and says that he has indeed fired her so she can collect unemployment.
- Maxwell: Tries to focus on producing a play.
- C.C.: Butters up to Maxwell by giving him an impromptu massage.
- Niles: Snarks C.C.'s blatant attempts at winning Maxwell's affections.
- Maggie: Shyly responds to Fran complimenting her appearance.
- Brighton: Pranks the Sheffield household.
- Gracie: Talks about therapy with the perspective of someone much older.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: Fran and Maggie at Maxwell's party.
- Fran comes down the staircase in a bright red, sparkly floor-length number with a slit up the side to mid-thigh.C.C. Babcock: What's that?
Maxwell Sheffield: (in amazement) That's... the nanny. - In the same scene, Maxwell goes slack-jawed when he sees Maggie looking all grown up:Maxwell Sheffield: My God. I had no idea how much she looked like her mother.
