Recap / The Muppets Mayhem S1E4 "Track 4: The Times They Are A-Changin'"

Go To

While Moog and Nora butt heads on the band's sound and whether or not it needs an update, Janice tries to cool the ongoing argument between Nora and Hannah.

Tropes:

  • Bread Milk Eggs Squick: Janice's ideas for getting Nora and Hannah talking again include trust falls, massages, and a lobotomy.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite Moog's fanboying and Nora's lack of faith in him, he actually put together an incredible mix tape of the Electric Mayhem's entire career.
  • Call-Back:
    • The band decide to record a new version of "Rockin' Robin" after watching the tape of them performing it in the Jean-Pierre Rampal episode of The Muppet Show.
    • The band remarks that Nora's collaboration idea sounds like what they did with Zedd and Sofia Carson in the previous episode. Nora agrees, but says that they're actually going to keep the song this time.
  • Disowned Sibling: Janice has an identical twin sister who she is estranged from for unknown reasons.
  • Failure Montage: Nora's attempts to get the band a fresh modern sound continuously fails as the guest artists keep insisting on covers of "Rockin' Robin".
  • Getting Crap Past the Radar: This gem comes from Dr. Teeth and Penny during their secret romantic liaison:
Penny: This first little piggy was just about to go to market!
Dr. Teeth: Well, you'll never guess what happened to the one who… stayed home.
  • Hidden Depths: Janice has been so eager to get Hannah and Nora to make up because she has a sister who she had a falling out with years ago, and she has no idea where she is. She tells Hannah that she doesn't want what happened between her and her sister to happen to Hannah and Nora.
  • In the Style of: Each of the musicians the band collaborate with want to do "Rockin' Robin" in a different style.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The episode opens with a medley of the band singing a number of public domain songs, and then suggesting some copyrighted songs that Dr Teeth notes they can, of course, sing for free in their own van. They decide on "Stairway to Heaven" ... and cut to titles.
  • Noodle Incident: Lips apparently convinced Kesha to change her name from Ke$ha.
