This episode has examples of

  • Comically Missing the Point: Until Kermit explains it to him, Fozzie isn't aware that the ventriloquist has to speak for the dummy as well.
  • Fantastic Racism: When Charlie calls Kermit a toad, Kermit explains the difference between frogs and toads.
Kermit: Well, you see, frogs are handsome, debonair and charming, while toads are ugly and give you warts.
Charlie: I see. I guess that means the toad is supposed to be here.
  • Gratuitous Laboratory Flasks: The "Time in a Bottle" skit is set in a laboratory packed with elaborate constructions of glass flasks and tubes, filled with brightly colored bubbling liquids.
  • No-Sell: When Charlie gets on Miss Piggy's nerves, her trademark karate chop is stymied by his wooden body. "OWW! SOLID OAK!"
  • Self-Deprecation: Charlie takes a little dig at Bergen's habit of moving his lips while performing.
Edgar: You don't know what you're saying.
Charlie: Yes I do, Bergen. I can read your lips.
  • Sustained Misunderstanding: Mortimer has a hard time figuring out whether he's there or not.
Fozzie: Listen, Mortimer, I didn't even know you were here.
Mortimer: Well... Say, maybe I'm not here.
    Fozzie: What?
    Mortimer: Was I here yesterday?
    Fozzie: Uh, no.
Mortimer: Well, then probably I'm not here today. I don't travel much.
    Fozzie: Listen, Mr. Bergen...
Mortimer: Am I supposed to be here?
    Fozzie: Of course.
Edgar: You'll have to excuse Mortimer. He's a little bit slow.
Mortimer: Yeah, it's probably why I'm not here yet.
Fozzie: Wait, what do you mean, Mortimer?
Mortimer: Well, if I was faster, I'd be here by now.
Edgar: Listen, Mortimer. Take my word for it. You are here.
    Mortimer: Well, thank goodness.
    Edgar: Are you through?
    Mortimer: No, I'm here.
  • Technicolor Science: The "Time in a Bottle" skit is set in a laboratory packed with elaborate constructions of glass flasks and tubes, filled with brightly colored bubbling liquids.

[Waldorf is looking down from the balcony. Statler is gone.]
Waldorf: [mournfully] He shouldn't have jumped. The show's not that bad.
