Recap / The Mask S 1 E 3 The Terrible Twos

Go To

Convinced that Stanley Ipkiss and The Mask are the same person, Lieutenant Kellaway handcuffs himself to Stanley so that way he can catch Stanley if and when he transforms. Stanley must go to elaborate lengths to keep Kellaway from finding out his secret- and stop two teenage slackers named Dak and Eddie who irradiated themselves to become mutant villains, Putty Thing and Fish Guy.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Kellaway mentions the constant atomic wedgies the Mask has pulled on him, Stanley briefly bursts out laughing.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Stanley gets back to the apartment he tells Milo to bring the mask but due to being out in the open Stanley says the m word which at first it seems that Milo understood what he meant but however it turns out that he brought a picture of Stanley’s mom which Stanley annoyed had to explain it again by saying not his mom but the other m word which Milo understood finally what he meant and brings the mask out to him.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The Mask as always cares about Stanley and loves him like a little brother as well so one of the reasons he decide not to let Kellaway find out so that Stanley does not end up in prison.
  • Chained Heat: Kellaway decide to cuff himself to Stanley so if he changes into The Mask he has proof that he and The Mask are one and the same person which causes Stanley to keep him from finding out and, even gets The Mask to stay on track as well because he knows if Stanley ends up in prison then he will remain a lifeless object forever so both of them take advantage of anything that might help them not being exposed until eventually Kellaway decide to give up and let Stanley go which gets both of them to finally go on with stopping the Terrible Two.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The Mask hears a howling from Milo while he is fighting the Terrible Twos which he translates through his own book which translates everything including animal that Kellaway is waking up which The Mask at first asks why he should bother but realises that Stanley might end up in prison and that he will not come out again so he decides to come back so that Stanley who he cares very much like his little brother does not end up in prison and takes his face off from time to time again whenever Kellaway is getting too close.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The Mask goes off being his usual self as he goes on his way to stop the Terrible Twos but however he hears from Milo that Kellaway is waking up which The Mask as usual dosen't see the big deal but realizes just then that he needs Stanley so that he can be around but if Stanley ends up in prison then he won't come out again so The Mask decides to go back to Kellaway so that dosen't happen and for the rest of the episode The Mask takes his face on and off such as dealing with the Terrible Twos while also making sure he gets back in time to take his face off so that Stanley is not exposed which shows how smart The Mask is, how much he cares about Stanley and he also loves him like a brother as well.
  • Skewed Priorities: Subverted as The Mask has to focus a lot more than usual because of the fact that he has to make sure that Kellaway doesn't find out that he and Stanley are the one and same person.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Dak and Eddie decided to irradiated themselves like in the comic books but however they fail to bring a spider with them so they end up becoming ill and later on become Putty Thing and Fish Guy which they should consider themselves lucky that they did not die horrible deaths because of what radiation can do to people who are exposed to it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as always changes his appearance which three of them are superheroes that fits with him well since he is one despite his lazy nature and also a fan of them as well. He turns into a pilot Racer, two X-Men Cyclops and Wolverine which he calls them Biclops and Toolverine, a frogman, a policeman, another superhero in a yellow suit, a Modern boxer, a fencer, a karate fighter, a fat cook, Albert Einstein and a bowling player.
