Plot

Sarah checks herself into a sleep clinic due to recurrent nightmares in which she is captured and interrogated by Ed Winston, the man she killed at the "Heat And Air" factory. Sinister events, however, lead her to suspect that there is something metallic going on at the clinic itself.

Plot

  • All Just a Dream: The big Reveal of the episode - the scenes of Sarah being interrogated by Winston are real, and the ones in the sleep clinic are her dreams as she drifts in and out of consciousness.
  • Call-Back: Winston's comments about talking being worse than torture echo Jesse's quoting of Derek's memories of being tortured by Fischer in "Complications".
  • Ceiling Cling: Sarah hides in the ceiling of the staircase from Hobson.
  • Eye Scream: Sarah stabs Winston in the eye with a hypodermic syringe and then gouges at his eyes with her fingers during their final fight.
  • Hope Spot: Sarah believes that she's getting though to Winston and persuaded him to betray his employers and let her go, but it turns out to be more mindgames.
  • Insomnia Episode: Sarah goes to the sleep clinic due to nightmare related insomnia.
  • It Gets Easier: Winston claims this when talking about his job.
  • Magical Native American: Subverted when Sarah asks Hector if his coyote tattoo is mystical and he responds that his girlfriend likes it.
  • Oral Fixation: Sarah's captor. He quit smoking and now eats bags of sunflower seeds.
  • Recovered Addict: Dana, Sarah's roommate at the clinic, has a laundry list of addictions.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Winston survived and is still acting as a soldier for the factory owners. Until Sarah kills him again.
  • Rewatch Bonus: When you know that it's the sleep clinic scenes that are the dreams, many of the events can be reinterpreted as revealing Sarah's preoccupations. The pancakes and the scene with Cameron in her underwear relate to her suspicions about Cameron's relationship with her son, and Dana's nightmares of burning to death and her actual death in a fire echo Sarah's nightmares of people being incinerated by nuclear holocaust.
  • Running Gag: Sarah's pancakes. Apparently, a Terminator makes better pancakes than Sarah.
  • Truth Serums: Used by Winston when interrogating Sarah. At one point, she makes him accidentally inject himself, but he's less drugged than she hoped.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Discussed. Dana has dreamt of dying many times, but is afraid of her dream of dying in a fire. This is foreshadowing for her ultimate end.
