Go To

This episode takes place between March 2020 through July 2020. Amy and the rest of the Cloud 9 employees are on full alert with new work protocols when the COVID-19 Pandemic begins to strike. With the pandemic in full swing, Amy's new job in California is forced to be postponed for the time being and continues to be store manager. After being called "Heroes", Dina and Glenn try to get the customers' approval of their assistance. With all of toilet paper and other essential products continue to be sold out, Cheyenne and Sandra come up with a plan to hide products so they could purchase them later.

Tropes:

  • Aborted Arc: Cheyenne's big bash that she was planning for her 21st birthday understandably had to be canceled because of COVID, which she mentions here.
  • Arc Words: A repeated trend is Zephra calling Cloud 9 employees "heroes," which Glenn and Dina latch onto even when Zephra doesn't care much about their safety.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Cheyenne and Sandra's plan to hide all essential products in the ceiling, especially when word spread among their fellow co-workers who asked them to hide their products, too. Eventually the ceiling buckled, gaining the attention of the customers who dashed to get the coveted items.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Heather locks Elias in a bathroom as a safety measure just because he coughed.
  • Gilligan Cut: In March, Amy notes that she's sure the COVID panic will be over in a few weeks. Cut to April: the pandemic is still going and the guidelines are even stronger.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: Released in late 2020, this episode recounts the early months of the COVID-19 Pandemic through the eyes of department store frontliners. The episode also tackles that summer's BlackLivesMatter protests, with Zephra sending anti-looting supplies and putting out a "Zephra believes in the Black community" sign and characters mentioning the protests.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Amy decapitates a teddy bear to remove the bandana around its neck to use as a mask. Jonah points out she could have just untied the bandana. They keep cutting up bears anyway.
  • Suspiciously Apropos Music: Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness" is played over the store's loudspeakers.
  • Take That!: When Marcus wants to discuss Tiger King, Cheyenne points out that that was "early pandemic" and they don't care anymore. Sandra says they regret caring about it in the first place.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Marcus got COVID because he didn't want to miss Spring Break, which resulted in him going to the ICU. Luckily in his case, he recovered.
  • Time Skip: The episode cuts across various months in early to mid 2020, showing how things are handled in the store during the different stages of the pandemic.
