Just a typical family reunion
The Uncanny Sword Arc is the fourth major story arc in Soul Eater. Tsubaki Nakatsukasa is tasked with hunting down the "Uncanny Sword", an infamous Demon Weapon revealed to be her older brother. Meanwhile, Medusa shows interest in a certain inmate at the Witch Prison."The Uncanny Sword Arc" contains examples of:
- Cain and Abel: Tsubaki is the Abel and Masamune is the Cain. She even explains the whole reason she came to the DWMA was to defeat her brother and stop his evil.
- Dark Is Evil: The enchanted sword Masamune's weapon form is this. Later Subverted as Tsubaki gains the enchanted sword mode for herself.
- Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Deconstructed. Tsubaki often played whatever game her brother Masamune wanted to play (even when she secretly wanted to play something else). This, unfortunately, lead to Masamune developing jealousy and resentment towards what he believed were acts of pity from his sister. This eventually festered into him steadily evolving into a Kishin.
- Evil Makes You Ugly: Masamune's enchanted sword used to be very beautiful but became clouded with darkness over time
- Flower Motif: Tsubaki's opening narration is about how she's named after a flower that is known to have no scent. This reflects how she often goes along with what other people tell her (shaped by her willingness to do what her brother wanted to make up for his lack of weapon powers), and therefore has no scent.
- Living Shadow: The enchanted sword can control peoples shadows as well as the person wielding him to fight.
- Stepford Smiler: The opening shows Masamune asking a child Tsubame what she wants to play, who eagerly tells him that she wants to play ball. It's later revealed that in reality, she wanted to play something else entirely, but went along with whatever game her brother wanted to play so he wouldn't feel to bad about not inheriting weapon powers.
- Ungrateful Bastard: The people of needle village are this towards Black Star due to him being a member of the star clan, even after he and Tsubaki save their village from her brother Masamune.
- Wham Line: at the end of episode 10 Tsubaki says "hello brother".
- Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Black Star and Tsubaki get a new powerful weapon mode to use. Do they get to use it to finish all their missions quickly from now on and make Tsubaki a death scythe even quicker? Nope, the mode takes much energy out of Black Stars wavelength, which take some time to master.
