Recap / Sonic Boom S 1 E 22 The Curse Of Buddy Buddy Temple

Go To

The twenty-second episode of the first season of Sonic Boom.

While battling each other, Sonic and Dr. Eggman get trapped in Buddy Buddy Temple, an ancient temple built by the Buddy Beavers where the only way for them to escape is to work together.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Eggman is revealed to have a Hedgehog Harness for the purpose of towing his Egg Mobile, which he needs Sonic to do so they can lift the floor tile.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: At one point, Eggman traps Sonic in the temple when the walls are about to close in on him. He then tries to escape on his own, but every time he tries to pull one of the two levers to the exit door, the other one doesn't stay down. Eggman has no choice but to set Sonic free so Sonic can help him escape.
  • Didn't Think This Through: After Eggman traps Sonic in the temple, he attempts to escape on his own, only to come across another door that requires him and Sonic to work together to open it.
Eggman: Come on, why would there be another door? I just opened one! Who even designed this temple?
  • Enemy Mine: The main premise of this episode is that Sonic and Eggman are trapped in a temple that forces them to work together to survive.
  • Eye Scream: While in the middle of another battle with Eggman, Sonic uses a tree in which birds have nested to attack the egg-shaped evil genius.
Sonic: Hey, Eggman, smile for the birdie. (bends back the tree and lets go, flinging the birds into Eggman's face; they begin poking him with their beaks)
Eggman: Ow! Ow! They're pecking my eyes! Why would I smile at this?!
  • Handcar Pursuit: Near the end of the episode, when Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Sticks, Orbot and Cubot reunite with Sonic and Eggman, they find a handcar and use it to escape from the temple as it caves in. Sonic and Eggman are the ones who do all the pumping.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: This line from Knuckles when Amy calls him obstinate:
Knuckles: I don't know what "obstinate" means, but I refuse to learn.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Eggman pretends his ankle is sprained to get Sonic to carry him through the wall trap. Once the two reach the door, Eggman exposes his ruse and traps Sonic so he can escape from the temple by himself.
  • Mourning an Object: A puzzle Sonic and Eggman must deal with inside the temple involves pulling levers to create platforms while avoiding lava. Unfortunately for Eggman, the Egg Mobile is consumed by the lava when it first comes in. After the two solve the puzzle, Eggman comes back and watches the Egg Mobile continue to melt.
Eggman: You were too beautiful to live.
  • Stating the Simple Solution:
    • When Knuckles and Amy argue over who should be in charge while Sonic is gone, Tails asks them and Sticks if they could all be in charge. They all tell him "No!" upon hearing this.
    • Later, Knuckles and Amy each decide to be on their own teams. When Tails asks them why he can't be on both teams, they tell him "No!" and Amy tells him that everyone has to pick a side.
    • Later still, when Orbot and Cubot join the rest of Team Sonic, since they don't know what to do without a leader, Knuckles and Amy continue to argue over who's the leader. Noting that they're not getting anywhere, Tails suggests that he be the leader, but Knuckles, Amy, Sticks, Orbot and Cubot all tell him "No!"
  • Two-Keyed Lock: This episode features, unsurprisingly, a temple with the theme building team-ship, which doesn't sit well with the two trapped people, Sonic and Eggman. Inside they have to alternate switches from across rooms to get across lava pools and the classic needing to press buttons at the same time to open doors.
  • The Walls Are Closing In: After Sonic activates a wall trap, Eggman traps him in it so he can escape from the temple by himself. However, Eggman is unable to keep the next two levers down by himself, so he has no choice but to set Sonic free so he can help him escape.
