Jauncy's Grandma Lila is quite the gossiper; so much so that she has been nicknamed the "Human CCTV". Hailing from the island of Caramoan, she clearly remembers the story of her friend, Miss Rosette. Her husband Gilbert is very short-tempered and often fights her, even in public. The day after a fight, Rosette acts as if nothing happens, and Gilbert is mysteriously absent from their house.
A week after that incident, Jethro, a surfer from Manila, stays over at Rosette's house. One night, he beats up Rosette, and the next day, he mysteriously disappears. A few nights later, Gilbert's mother Miss Gora receives a mysterious piece of meat.
Curious, Lila follows Rosette, but instead of going to the market, she finds herself going down an abandoned forest path. Descending into a valley, she finds human bones tied to trees and a cave behind a large waterfall. Inside the cave, Gilbert and Jethro are tied up naked with several of their body parts missing, seemingly the work of an unknown tribe.
Rosette explains that she is a member of the tribe that lives in the cave. She left to marry a city man, but upon marrying Gilbert, she realized his true nature and returned to have his thigh cut for meat. The gruesome scene disgusts Lila so much that she flees the scene and returns home.
The next day, Lila tries to confront Rosette about it, but she dodges all of Lila's questions. In the middle of their conversation, Caleb, a man from the market, arrives, and the two go out, never to be seen again.
Fearing for her safety, Lila and Jauncy flee Caramoan and settle in Manila.
