Go To

It is Christmas time and no one except Turk feels like celebrating. Cox gets J.D. to video the birth of a friend's baby, and once again, nothing seems to go right.

  • Babies Make Everything Better: Kelso tells Eliot that she's going to end up in OB-GYN because that's where most women doctors end up. The episode centers on her awkward relationship with a pregnant patient and JD filming the birth of Cox's friend's baby.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The light over the park that Turk uses as a metaphor for the star that guided the wise men shows up at the end as his inspiration to find Eliot's missing patient.
  • Crisis of Faith: Turk briefly loses faith after he spends Christmas Eve dealing with the sorts of horrors you encounter in an emergency room.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Seeing the light over the park inspires Turk to run and find Eliot's patient... even though he had no way of knowing she'd be there.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Nurse Tisdale shows up oiled up and wearing a bikini in JD's Imagine Spot.
  • Shout-Out: JD's Imagine Spot recreates the Imagine Spot of Phoebe Cates in a red bikini taking off her top in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: Eliot's patient is pregnant, pretty far along, and completely unaware. She gives birth in the park at the end of the episode.
  • The Twelve Spoofs of Christmas: Turk's faith is tested by the many, many difficulties he has to deal with on Christmas Eve. They play it for laughs until they don't.
"On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me
    12 beaten children
    11 drive by shootings
    10 frozen homeless
    9 amputations
    8 burn victims
    7 strangled shoppers
    6 random knifings
    5 suicides
    4 beaten wives
    3 OD's
    2 shattered skulls
and a drunk who drove into a tree"
  • Tyke-Bomb: Parodied in a flashback to The Cold War, when a doctor delivers a baby boy and hails him as "another ready soldier in the war against communism."
