Tropes for this episode include:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: When their French Maid Outfit fails, the only guy left is a creepy fat guy ogling Yukari. He freaks her out so much she runs away in fear.
  • Absurdly Powerful Student Council: The Public Security Commission operate less like a council of students meant to maintain order in the student body and more like the Yakuza treating Yokai Academy like their own personal police-state with no foreseeable oversight from the staff. The reason why they declared war against the Newspaper Club in the first place was because the Club has had a long history of trying to hold them accountable for their corruption.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Keito's minions were originally the presidents of the Classical Literature, Japanese Tea-Ceremony Club and Yaoi Manga Club before the Security Committee deemed them threats. With Keito's venom, they were all turned into her slaves, and she intended to do the same with Kurumu if Mizore hadn't stepped in.
  • Monster of the Week: Keito is a Jorōgumo and a member of the Public Security Commission, sent to manage her own competing newspaper that follows the Commission's protocols.
  • Sex Sells: When the Yokai Square starts outdoing the Yokai Gazette, Kurumu and Yukari start handing out their paper and home-made cookies in French Maid Outfits. In-response, the Yokai Square starts handing out photos of themselves in bikinis.
  • Strawman News Media: While the Newspaper Club's Yokai Gazette is meant to be the kind of paper to hold the powerful accountable (like the Security Committee), the Public Security Committee creates their own paper the Yokai Square in a gambit to run the old paper out of business in order to stamp out what they consider a threat to their authority.
  • Two Decades Behind: Kurumu was put in charge of the fashion column in the newspaper, basing it around human fashion trends. Unfortunately, she's choosing the Gyaru Girl look that went in and out of style in The '90s.
