Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 1 Left In Another Dimension

Go To

Lincoln Loud tries to beat his 10 sisters to the TV. But when a blackout cuts all the power in the house, a dangerous adventure with his sister Lucy and their Grandpa Rick may be the only way to get it back.

Rick & Morty episode: "Pilot"

Loud House episode: "Left In The Dark"

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In Loud House canon, Rita and Lynn Sr. aren't heard until "Heavy Meddle" and don't show up in person until "No Guts, No Glori" (not counting Lynn Sr. showing up in flashback in "Driving Miss Hazy"), with their faces not shown until "11 Louds A-Leapin'". Here, they show up in the first chapter, which adapts "Left in the Dark".
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Midway into the adventure, Lincoln gets fed up with Rick and yells at him for costing him his chance to watch "ARGGH!" But then Rick rips into Lincoln and Lucy for their overall selfishness.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: In one chapter alone, things for Lincoln go from "beating my sisters to the TV" to "trying to survive in a hostile alien dimension".
  • Children Forced to Kill: Subverted. Lincoln and Lucy don't want to kill the Gromflomites chasing after them, but Rick tells them to shoot their limbs instead.
  • Darker and Edgier: This chapter gradually shows that this story will have MUCH higher stakes for the Loud Siblings than in canon Loud House.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Downplayed. While we first get to be introduced to Lincoln Loud, the protagonist of The Loud House, narrating to the audience being his specialty, we seemingly are led to believe that he'll play the role of protagonist all the way... and then his grandfather, Rick Sanchez shows up and suddenly pulls Lincoln to another one of his crazy adventures in the multiverse, dragging Lucy along with him. As the chapter goes about, it's clear that Rick is the real star of the show, and as future chapters show, Lincoln doesn't play the leading role in this dangerous game, rather whoever sister he has Rick can just pick up and take with him in his shenanigans. This is also pretty much hammered in the end, when Rick rants about having more adventures, while blabbering the fic's title.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • When the other Loud Sisters figure that Rick's responsible for the power outage, Lisa worries that messing with Rick's inventions might be dangerous even for her.
    • The reason Rick wants Lincoln to shove the Mega Fruits up his butt is because he thinks getting Lucy to do it would be "just sick."
  • Establishing Character Moment: All of this trope plays in spades with Lincoln's family's chaos in "Left in the Dark" from The Loud House... and the beginning of Rick Sanchez's antics in the Rick and Morty pilot.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Lincoln is hesitant to stuff the Mega Fruits up his butt, Lucy offers to do it, much to Lincoln and Rick's shock, to give her poor brother a break. However, Lincoln does it anyway, not wanting Lucy to go through it.
  • Lighter and Softer: While definitely darker than Loud House canon, this chapter also shows that this story is relatively lighter compared to canon Rick And Morty. In this chapter alone, Rick L-137 proves to be somewhat nicer than Rick C-137, Lincoln doesn't get grievously injured unlike Morty, and thanks to him and Lucy just shooting their pursuers in the legs, no one is killed. Rather pointedly, Rick injects Lincoln with an antidote for the dissolving Mega Seeds before he succumbs to their effects the way Morty did at the end of the corresponding episode.
    • Bonus points that Rick doesn't introduce himself blackout drunk and setting up a neutrino bomb that will kill off humanity, and dragging Lincoln into it.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Rick really lays into Lincoln and Lucy (and, subsequently, the rest of their sisters) not just for doubting his intentions for his adventure, but also for always fighting over something they want instead of working out compromises.
