Recap / Recess S 3 E 8 Stand Up Randall

Go To

Randall becomes a successful playground comedian when he discovers a joke book in the lost and found; but his act starts to get spiteful once he starts to run out of jokes and starts making mean jokes about Mikey.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Done by Lawson after overhearing one of Randall's jokes.
Lawson: Hey, tattle-loser! (Randall gasps and turns to see Lawson) That's a good one.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: The Cornchip Girl and the gang has this reaction to Randall's mean jokes about Mikey. Before the gang comes to confront Randall of his jokes, the Cornchip Girl voices her dislike of Randall's jokes about Mikey, saying that thought the jokes are funny, they hurt his feelings until Randall turns her away.
  • Insult Comic: To keep his popularity going, Randall starts making Mikey the butt of his jokes. Mikey is alright with his jokes at first, until Randall starts fat-shaming him with his weight being the constant punchline.
Randall: But seriously, folks, you know, Mikey's so fat...
    Mikey: Fat?
Everyone (sans Mikey, the gang and Cornchip girl): How fat is he?
Randall: Mikey's so fat, he has to iron his pants in the driveway. (The kids laugh) When he went to St. Louis, he got stuck in the arch.
(The kids laugh even more as Mikey stares at Randall with a sad frown on his face)
    Mikey: Ow, that one hurt.
  • In the Blood: When Mr. Weems catches his son reading the joke book under the covers after bedtime.
Mr. Weems: Junior, your mother says no reading after bedtime... I'm telling!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: To shut down Randall's act and career as a comedian for making fun of Mikey after finding out from Menlo that Randall's stealing old jokes from a book, the gang and even the Cornchip Girl say the punchlines and even come up with their own jokes about Randall where it prompts the student body to walk off and leave Randall all alone.
  • Produce Pelting: After Randall snitched on arty kid at the beginning of the episode, the student body starts pelting him with their lunch contents.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Everybody in the playground starts to ditch Randall once the gang steals the punchlines. Even King Bob departs with them.
King Bob: This no longer amuses me. Take me to my jungle gym.
  • You Are Fat: This is where Randall uses Mikey's weight as the constant punchline.
