RotomDex has an Out Of Body Experience.

Ash's Rotom Pokédex is in for a shock when an errant Thunderbolt from Pikachu separates it from Ash. Now it has to travel various appliances on Melemele Island trying to get back where it belongs.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Cryptid Episode: Or at least subplot. The mythical Pokémon Marshadow makes a cameo appearance, and the Rotoms have very different opinions on attempting to photograph it.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Lycanroc annoys Litten. Litten uses Ember, misses, and hits Rowlet. Rowlet does a diving kick, misses, and hits Pikachu. Pikachu does Thunderbolt and electrocutes everybody, causing Ash's Rotom to be swapped with a washing machine that was delivered to Professor Kukui by mistake.
  • Harmless Freezing: Sophocles's fate when faced with Frost Rotom.
  • Here We Go Again!: When the Disaster Dominoes strike for a third time, Ash discovers that Rotom is missing from the Pokédex again. This time, it has accidentally possessed the entire Pokémon Center.
  • Out Of Body Experience: Rotom gets electrically exorcised by Pikachu, and spends most of the episode trying to get back to Ash's Pokédex.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In a way. Ash really doesn't figure out he's got the wrong Rotom.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Rotom's inability to clearly speak to the other cast members leads to a large number of unneeded altercations.
  • Power Incontinence: Rotom has trouble controlling the abilities of its appliance formes, usually resulting in chaos.
  • Translation Convention: Rotom narrates the events throughout the episode, but none of the cast members can understand it.
  • Verbal Tic: The other Rotom says "wash" a lot.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Marshadow appears in this episode for a short while... and then vanishes and never appears again for the entire series.
