Sometimes, love makes you want to turn over a new leaf.
Jessie and Wobbuffet are rescued from peril, and both find love: Jessie with Dr. White, and Wobbuffet with the Pokémon Doctor's Wobbuffet. Jessie seems ready to give up the low life in favor of love. But when James runs afoul of a seedy Pokémon Hunter, she has to make a hard choice.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Call-Back: Meowth reminisces about his sticky romances in the past. Despite his issues with romance, Meowth still thinks Jessie and Wobbuffet would be better off pursuing love.
- A Day in the Limelight: It's been quite a while since there were any Wobbuffet-centric episodes. Or any Jessie-centric episodes, for that matter.
- Don't Tell Mama: When the twerps find out "Jessilea" is really Jessie, she "grovels" to them not to tell Dr. White, then tells them she's leaving Team Rocket.
- A modified version later, when James asks the twerps to help him save Meowth, Inkay, and Pumpkaboo from the Pokémon Hunter without bothering Jessie about it.
- Enemy Mine: Team Rocket and the twerps band together to defeat the Pokémon Hunter. He's finished with a quadruple attack from Pumpkaboo, Inkay, Pikachu, and Fennekin.
- Face of a Thug: Jessie goes on the offensive when an Ursaring shows up to her and Dr. White, but the bear is in fact a former patient, and is seen playing with the Wynaut.
- Foreshadowing: Clemont's Bunnelby learns a new attack, but we won't be seeing it until his and Ash's fated gym battle later.
- GASP!: How the twerps react to Jessie revealing she's giving up on Team Rocket.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Going off to confront the poacher, Jessie leaves her Wobbuffet behind, thinking that he'll be happier with Dr. White and his Wobbuffet. Earlier, James and Meowth treat her decision to stay with Dr. White the same way. Jessie even calls Wobbuffet a fool for choosing to return to her. But unlike Dustox, she doesn't force the issue this time.
- Rescue Romance: Jessie falls for the kindly Dr. White after he saves her from drowning. It just so happens that Wobbuffet also starts gravitating towards White's female Wobbuffet and (presumably) its Wynaut offspring.
- Spaghetti Kiss: The two Wobbuffet end up in such a sequence while eating.
- 10-Minute Retirement: Jessie wants to stay with Dr. White, but decides to return to save her Team Rocket teammates.
