Recap / Pokemon EA 48 Hopper The Lost Heir PT 1

Go To

Following the aftermath of Flash's loss at the Hoofington Battle Tournament, as the group begins to make their way to Manehatten City they are suddenly attacked by a Dragon-type rider, accusing them of being thieves. After a quick battle, the rider reveals to know the truth behind Hopper's mysterious past, that he is actually the prince of dragons.

  • Berserk Button: Kaida is outraged to see Flash treating the prince like a pet, rubbing him under the chin. Ryu reacts similarly to seeing Flash riding him.
  • Big "WHAT?!": When Flash tells Kaida that he can just ride on Hopper and follow her back to the Dragon Kingdom, Kaida barely lets out a "What?!" in response before Flash and Springer get on Hopper's back. This leaves both Kaida and Anguis amazed that Hopper even lets Flash ride him.
  • Birthmark of Destiny: It is revealed that Hopper's birthmark is actually this. It identifies him as heir to the throne of the Dragon Kingdom, and his father Titan has the exact same birthmark.
  • Continuity Nod: Twilight is afraid of accidentally making Flash feel even worse, like she previously did at Camp Everfree.
  • Gentle Giant: Titan is a whole foot taller than Hopper and Mercy, with both Hopper and Flash shrinking back in intimidation at the sight of him. But he is actually very friendly, welcoming his son back with a warm embrace, and thanks Flash for taking care of him.
  • Heroic BSoD: Flash is shown to still be in bad shape after his loss against Lightning in the previous chapter, something all his friends notice and don't know what to do to help him.
  • Love at First Sight: Hopper instantly gets a crush on a shiny female Skeidran named Princess once he lays eyes on her.
  • The Nose Knows: Hopper's mom, Mercy, gives him a quick sniff when she first meets him. She can apparently recognize his scent from when he was an egg, and happily embraces him in a hug.
  • Poor Communication Kills:
    • Kaida attacks the group out of the blue after discovering them, believing them to be the thieves that stole Hopper's egg. The group is constantly confused when she keeps referring to Hopper as a "prince" and them as "thieves" but she refuses to explain anything to "criminals" like them. She is finally forced to give answers when Hopper defeats her Dragonair.
    • When Kaida brings the group to the Dragon Kingdom so they can see that she is not lying about Hopper, Ryu attacks Flash shortly after they arrive, believing the group are their prisoners and Kaida brought them to face justice. Apparently he didn't hear the news that they weren't the criminals and were to be treated as guests.
  • Second Place Is for Losers: Ryu says that Second Place is first loser, mocking Flash for coming in Second Place at the Hoofington Battle Tournament despite having the prince of dragons on his team.
