Recap / Phineas And Ferb Der Kinderlumper

Go To

While Phineas and Ferb create Rutabaga-themed vehicles for the Running of the Chinchillas, Doof is inspired by a legendary Drusselsteinian monster to scare Roger into relinquishing the Tri-State Area to him.

Tropes

  • Abusive Parents: Mrs. Doofenshmirtz raised Heinz to believe that Der Kinderlumper was a monstrous figure that hunts children seemingly to torment him because she also taught Roger that he rewarded children.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Kinderlumper actually translates from German as "child deliverer"... which either means "kidnapper" (like how Heinz was taught) or "present giver" (like how Roger learned it).
  • Casting Gag: The news reporter, Mike van Hatofapilgrim, is voiced by Los Angeles news reporter Gordon Tokumatsu, whose name served as the inspiration for recurring reporter character, Gordon Gutsofanemu.
  • Clapper Gag: Doof claps his hands to turn the lights on and off, to activate his inator and to trap Perry.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: In the story of Der Kinderlumper that Heinz was told, the titular monster comes for awful kids. Well, Der Kinderlumper seems to have very flexible standards for awful, because he'll come for kids who turn their heads slightly to the right, drink a glass of water, or do so much as blink or even breathe in and out.
  • Does Not Like Spam: It is revealed that Roger does not like almond brittle, unlike his brother.
  • Foreshadowing: The reveal that Der Kinderlumper was taught to Roger as a benevolent figure is hinted at with the knowledge that its name means "the child deliverer".
  • In the Style of: Doof's song is done as a a tribute to the Hi-De-Ho Man himself, Cab Calloway, with Doof wearing a white tuxedo and doing some of Cabby's trademark moves.
  • Irony: Roger was given almond brittle by "Der Kinderlumper", when unlike Heinz, he doesn't even like it.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: Candace usually says the names "Phineas" and "Ferb" in the same breath, but when she's running from the monster chinchillas, she calls out, "Phineas, Phineas, Phineas!... and Ferb!" as if saying Ferb's name was an afterthought.
  • Newscaster Cameo: Gordon Tokumatsu, an anchor for NBC Los Angeles and whose name served as the inspiration for recurring newscaster character "Gordon Gutsofanemu", voices reporter Mike Van Hatofapilgrim.
  • A Rare Sentence: Lampshaded by Candace as soon as she says it, "I've got the fennel pedal all the way down to the rutabaga metal! And yes, I know that's a weird sentence."
  • Shout-Out:
    • The concept of the Kinderlumper is very similar to that of Krampus, the evil counterpart to Santa Claus.
  • Something We Forgot: After Perry enters his lair, Linda vacuums at home before realizing she is supposed to be in Badgertown for the Running of the Chinchillas.
  • The Stinger: A rare case for an "A" episode. A flashback shows young Heinz bouncing on his bed, but his mother tells him to stop or else the Kinderlumper will stuff him in his gundersack. Young Heinz dismisses this, but then the Kinderlumper sticks his head in Heinz's bedroom window and sniffs him. Unfortunately, this is not seen on streaming.
  • Welcome to My World: Candace to Mike after the chinchillas steal the helicopter containing the footage of the chinchilla race.
  • "X" Marks the Spot: Doof, as the Kinderlumper, tricks the monster Perry onto standing on an X, and he claps to activate the trap.
Doofenshmirtz: Ha! Let that be a lesson to you: Never stand on a big cartoony "X"!.
