Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E13 "Just Be a Pebble"

Go To

K.O. is tired of being small, so Rad gives him a candy bar that can increase his size. However, K.O. soon realizes that being big isn't all it's cracked up to be. He later accidentally hurls Mr. Gar's car keys in the sewer while trying to help him (due to his increased size), and must shrink to be able to retrieve them.

Tropes:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: K.O. eats some candy that makes people bigger, but he eats so much he becomes a giant. He thinks it's a good thing, but it becomes a problem since he can't work for the store because he's too big to be in the store.
  • Continuity Nod: Rad is jealous that K.O. can fill his pockets with cats; previous episodes like "You Are Rad" established Rad has a soft spot for kittens.
  • Deconstructed Trope: Yes, being huge is pretty cool, and lets you do some crazy awesome things, but it also makes life pretty inconvenient.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Gar asks K.O. this after seeing him as a giant.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: One of the items giant K.O. has after going around the world is the flag of Ghana, which was designed by Theodosia Okoh, the grandmother of the show creator Ian Jones-Quartey.
  • Height Angst: K.O.'s desire to be taller drives the episode's plot.
  • Ice-Cream Koan: Carol gives one to K.O., but it goes over his head.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: The miniaturizing burritos make K.O. so small he falls through the sewer grate.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Mega-Huge-Man is only 5'-10".
K.O.: Mega-Huge-Man, five foot ten, which isn't all that tall, but still larger than me.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: The six-eyed rat is drawn far more realistically than the other characters.
  • Power-Up Food: This episode showcases a lot in the Bodega's stock, the size-increasing candy bars taking focus to drive the plot. Beardo's shrinking burritos also count to an extent.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: Gar is really stupid in this episode. When he first sees giant K.O., he does not address his size at all, instead asking him if he got a haircut. Then he, instead of asking Enid or Rad to do it, enlists K.O., who, at this part of the episode is the size of a house, to retrieve his car keys from a small crack inbetween the seats. Unsurprisingly, giant K.O. fails to retrieve the keys, which go flying into the sewers, forcing him to shrink to retrieve them.
    • K.O. himself is also a little bit on the dumber side. He still decides to try and retrieve the car keys even though he probably knows he's too big to get them out safely.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Beardo calls Enid and Rad on assuming that he can read the foreign language written on the candy wrappers.
Beardo: (Reads wrapper closely) I see, got it.
Enid: You can read it, that's great! what does it say?
Beardo: It says it's rude to assume that immigrants can read all foreign languages.
(Enid and Rad blush while laughing awkwardly)
