Go To

Team Bobby must rescue a family of four from a car bomb a la Speed. Eddie struggles to adjust to his new job.

  • Bait-and-Switch: The Cold Open features a quinceañera. Lourdes wanted to float, so her throne has balloons. With the sudden burst of wind, we are led to believe that she's about to be a victim of a fall. Instead, she sees a dead guy on a roof. The skydiver isn't dead, but he can't feel his legs.
  • Cranky Neighbor: Said neighbor also rigged the car to blow and a gas pedal with a pressure plate, meaning he intended to kill the family.
  • External Combustion: The car blows up, but the team was able to save the family.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Josh calls out Eddie for hijacking Linda's call, which is justified as Eddie is merely a public relations officer and not a dispatcher. However, he sided with Claudette when May came at Josh talking about Claudette hijacking her call in Peer Pressure.
    • Buck talks about how a relationship where one doesn't commit to it sucks since he was in the same situation with Abby and is quite bitter when Eddie tells him Ana is the first woman he wants to spend time with since Shannon in Desperate Times, but then uses similar wording to Taylor by saying the relationship was the most functional he has, cheats on her by kissing floater firefighter Lucy (even though being drunk may contribute to this), and instead of following Hen's final advice to tell her, Buck instead asks her to move in.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Nonetheless, Josh is absolutely right on the money because if the call were to have gone sideways, Eddie would have opened himself up to a bunch of lawsuits.
  • Tempting Fate: After that drunk kiss with the floater, Buck gleefully says at least he won't see her again. Bobby makes an announcement welcoming Lucy and Jonah to the 118.
  • Title Drop: Athena does this while following up with the family whose car was rigged to blow. The mother complains about that hoarder neighbor who knows her job and sons' names.
  • Trash of the Titans: The neighbor from across the street has a front yard full of junk. Said neighbor is the bomber.
